We’ve read Wilder and Nova, and gotten to know the male members of the original Renegades crew. It’s about time we get to know all about Rebel.

About ‘Rebel’

She’s Penna Carstairs.

The Renegade they call Rebel.

FMX-treme Magazine’s sexiest female athlete of the year.

There’s no rule in extreme sports she hasn’t broken,

No gender barrier she hasn’t demolished.

She’s the woman I met in a bar in Vegas.

The woman I illegally BASE jumped for.

The woman I spent one insane, incredible night with.

But now I’m screwed.

Or rather… not screwed.

Because the woman I can’t get out of my head is the one woman I can never touch again.

I’m Dr. Cruz Delgado — the youngest professor on this campus,

And Penelope Carstairs just walked into my class.

‘Rebel’ book review

I am so grateful to the Renegades for bringing Rebecca Yarros and her books into my life. While I haven’t taken the plunge into her Fight and Glory series yet, you can bet that is high on my list. I absolutely fell head over heels for Wilder, as watching Paxton and Leah navigate the rapids of their story was nothing short of mezmerizing. And Nova brought Landon and Rachel’s complicated and heartwrenching story to my world in the explosive way that only the Renegades can.

And now, Rebel has finally arrived, and with all the tricks, twists, and turns you would expect from a powerhouse woman like Penna Carstairs. She meets the love of her life in the most unexpected way, and it’s good that Cruz is more than ready to try and keep up.

I love a good forbidden romance, and Penna and Cruz deliver one hell of a story. The Renegades never do any stunt halfway, and we really shouldn’t be surprised that for Penna, falling in love is her most dangerous stunt yet. Like most good student/teacher forbidden romance, Rebel establishes early on that there was a bond between these two far before they were teacher and student. While Penna and Cruz try their hardest to resist its power, with love there are no backup parachutes.

Penna’s stubbornness and determination to not only survive, but thrive is what makes her such an important part of the Renegades. She doesn’t just want to nail her tricks and stunts, she wants them to remind her what it means to be alive. We’ve watched the early parts of Rebel’s story through Paxton and Landon’s eyes, but getting the chance to finish this journey with Penna herself is a true joy. This woman doesn’t just want to prove that she’s the best woman in her sport, but that she’s simply the best.

I could not be more grateful for how Rebecca chose to end this series. I have been shocked and surprised with each of these books, but Rebel truly takes the top spot in my heart. Penna has endured so many setbacks and disappointments from both her family and her chosen family. Getting past the events of Wilder and rediscovering her inner Rebel was just one part of this story. The absolutely incredible lengths to which Penna and Cruz are willing to go for each other is what makes Rebel my favorite Renegades book, yet.

I love romance, and I have read my fair share, but there’s something about Rebel that will have me coming back to re-read again and again for many years to come. Penna’s struggle to make peace with things outside of her control, while simultaneously gripping hard to everything she can, reminds us all that life is fragile and unpredictable. Taking the time to appreciate the life and love that we’ve been given is what it’s all about. The Renegades may jump off cliffs, race down mountains, and flip some gnarly machines for fun, but their biggest risks came when their hearts were involved, and that rush absolutely cannot be matched.
