There are a lot of reasons we love Brooklyn Nine-Nine, so we decided to make a few lists detailing the reasons why. 99 reasons why, to be exact.

Over the next few months, we will be posting nine reasons why we love the show. Each article will be a continuation of the last, so while this week is reasons one through nine, next week will be reasons 10 through 19, and so on.

Reasons 1-9 why we love ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’

1: Amy’s pantsuits

They’re amazing and her seemingly never-ending wardrobe of them is something to marvel at. Of course, we also love when she decides to ditch the uniform for something more casual (like in “Beach House”) or something fancy, when the occasion calls for it.

2: Scully and Hitchcock

The best way to explain these two is to liken them to the background characters on The Office. Maybe it’s no surprise then, that one of Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s creators, Michael Schur, used to be an executive producer and the strange character Mose on the mockumentary show.

But, like on The Office, while they may not have much to do in the Nine-Nine, we can’t imagine watching the hi-jinks Jake, Amy and the rest of them get up to without including these two.

3: This sequence from last week’s episode, ‘Payback’

Jake owed some other detectives money, but when they decided to get their payback in the form of favors, Jake found himself washing Boyle’s dogs, calling Gina’s family, and worst of all: giving a back massage to Scully.

4: Captain Holt holding puppies

Life improves 100% when you add puppies to the mix.

5: Jake’s lack of physical fitness

We’ve all been there, Jake, but if you want to get fit – or distract Terry long enough in the gym to delete an email you accidentally sent to the entire precinct – you have to start somewhere!

6: Basically all of the quotes from this post

7: Andre Braghner, though stoic as Captain Holt, is a comedic genius.

He improvised this line:

8: The game ‘Real Holt or Fake Holt?’

Fun fact: this can also be a trivia game that you can adapt to play in your own friend group. Or, you can play it with basically any fictional character. Some examples:

  • “My father will hear about this after I write him a very reasonable and level-headed letter!” – Real Draco or Fake Draco?
  •

  • “There is too much wine in my glass.” – Real Olivia Pope or Fake Olivia Pope?
  •

9: Boyle doing the ‘Single Ladies’ dance with the women in lockup
