Benedict Cumberbatch took his crime fighting heroics to a whole new level when he saved a cyclist in London from a mugging.

According to British tabloid, The Sun, the Doctor Stranger actor personally chased off four assailants who were mugging a deliveroo cyclist in London.

The incident, which took place on Marylebone High Street, saw Cumberbatch leave his Uber — which he was traveling in with wife, Sophie Hunter — and immediately come to the defence of the cyclist, who was set upon by the would-be muggers.

“The cyclist was lucky, Benedict’s a superhero,” Manuel Dias, the Uber driver, told the Sun. “Benedict was courageous, brave and selfless. If he hadn’t stepped in the cyclist could have been seriously injured.”

According to Dias, once the assailants realized who Cumberbatch was, they ran off. Once the deliveroo rider was safe, Cumberbatch asked how he was, and as soon as he had an affirmative ‘okay,’ hugged them.

The Metropolitan Police department also released a statement, which shed some more light on the severity of the incident. “One of the males attempted to grab the victim’s cycle… He was then punched in the face, struck on the head and hit with his helmet,” they said of the incident, which occurred in November 2017.

“Nothing was reported stolen,” the statement added. “The victim did not require hospital treatment. No arrests have been made.”

The Sun reached out to Cumberbatch for a statement, though he was modest about what he had done. “I did it out of, well, I had to, you know…”

Deliveroo, a company that supplies a food delivery service across the United Kingdom, thanked Cumberbatch for coming to the aid of one of their riders. “We’d like to thank Benedict Cumberbatch for his heroic actions,” they said. “On behalf of everyone at deliveroo: thank you so much.”
