Author T.A. Barron has published the origin story of Grukarr, a character from his new Atlantis Saga, and you can now read Never Again for free!

Never Again: The Origin of Grukarr tells the story of a young Grukarr as he develops his love for blueberries and learns about the magic of herbs with his mother. This short story begins with Grukarr as a young child, and continues up through his adolescence.

Grukarr is by no means a gentle spirit, but his greed and malice is somewhat curbed by his mother and her pleasant demeanor. But Grukarr’s choices lead to a devastating result, and this story shows us how he became the man we love to hate in Atlantis Rising.

In the first novel of Barron’s Atlantis Saga, Deputy High Priest Grukarr is not a good man. It is in part because of him that Promi, one of the heroes of the story, gets wrapped up in the mysterious plot that takes place in the first installment.

Though Never Again will not lead you to sympathize with Grukarr by any means, it will help you to understand how he turned into the twisted priest we saw when Atlantis Rising debuted.

The official synopsis for Atlantis Rising reads, “In a magical land called Ellegandia, a young boy named Promi scrapes by, stealing pies, cakes and sweets to survive. But little does he know that his country is a pawn in an ages-old war between good and evil, battled both in the spirit realm and in the human world. Harboring secrets of his own, Promi teams up with a courageous girl named Atlanta and the two vow to save their land—and each other—no matter the cost. But their vow has greater repercussions than they ever could imagine—in fact, it may just bring about the creation of Atlantis, an island cut off from the rest of the world, where magic reigns supreme.”

Atlantis Rising is available to order in hardcover right now. The paperback edition will debut on September 25.
