Rage delivers an incredible second chapter in Cora Carmack’s Stormhearts series, and will have you positively aching for the next one.

Okay, so if you have read any of my book posts or listened to any podcasts I’ve been on in the last, like, 3 years, at some point, you’ve probably heard me singing the praises of Ms. Cora Carmack, first for her New Adult romance titles, then for some kickass sports romance books. Now, it’s all about the YA high fantasy romance, baby.

When Roar came out two years ago, I was a little nervous. Outside of like, Harry Potter, I hadn’t read a ton of fantasy. I watch a lot of supernatural TV shows, and I’ve seen a ton of fantasy movies, but when it comes to books, I tend to gravitate toward more contemporary fare. A little dystopian, some general YA, lots of romance, even some suspense or mysteries, but all tend to be set somewhere close to this decade.

And then came the Stormhearts series. I seem to have forgotten how absolutely, head over heels taken I was by previous fantasy reads, and now I’m ecstatic to sing the praises of the book that brought me back to them.

Anyway, let’s talk about Rage.

Book two in the Stormhearts series, Rage, picks up pretty much right where Roar left off. Our girl is just outside her hometown, fretting over how to come clean about her HUGE secret, and debating what is the best way to go about freeing Pavan from Locke’s control. Get ready for a truly wonderful second chapter in a saga that has had me reeling since page one.

‘Rage’ book review

I. LOVE. THIS. SERIES. Review done. Cut, print, check the gate, moving on.

Just kidding. I have so, so many words roiling around inside my head trying to form coherent sentences about why and how and what I love so much about this series.

I think we should just start with how great a second book this is. Rage accomplishes a lot in its almost 400 pages, including introducing new characters, unraveling secrets, kindling new love, and reuniting old friends. Not to mention that whole rebellion thing. And that’s kind of a big deal.

Rage steps into the shadow of the events of Roar and marches straight up to the gates of book three. It gets us ready for everything that lies ahead for Aurora, Kiran, Jinx, Nova, and the rest, and adds more than a few complications to the pile as well. ESPECIALLY WITH THAT ENDING.

I could not be more happy with how Rage‘s story unfolds. We know after the events of Roar that its only a matter of time before Roar has to reveal who she truly is to her new crew of friends, but nothing can truly prepare you for how someone might take the news that you’re secretly a princess. Watching how everyone takes Aurora’s big revelation and what it means for Pavan, this storm-hunting crew, and the world itself is handled with care and, I must say, pretty realistic flair.

Without giving anything away, I must also express my love for the dynamic and incredible Zephyr. Her ferocity bounds off the page and into your heart, endearing her and her plight to save the people of Pavan from its new, tyrannical overlords within pages of meeting her. I could not be more excited to see where the upcoming battles and turbulent times take our newest character, and how she will handle everything coming her way.

Also, there’s a new pairing in this book that, seriously, gives me life. The two characters hadn’t even met before Rage, but watching their bond grow through page after page of interaction makes it feel like they’ve known each other for eons, not days.

I really cannot recommend this series enough. I have fallen head over heels for the magic and the chaos, and especially for Aurora and Kiran. Their relationship is the core of what makes the Stormheart series come alive. Their fire and passion for both life and each other is a resounding testimonial of the unbridled pulse of life that Rage delivers from page one onward. I am DYING after the end of Rage, wondering where their relationship is going next, and, sensing a little of what lies ahead for them, how they are going to manage to hold onto each other in whichever raging storm sets its sights on them next.

So, verdict is: Go read Rage. Read it, enjoy it, and prepare yourself for all the turmoil and killer story that is yet to come. This series has captured my heart, and I haven’t managed to steal it back yet. There are so many things these stormhunters have left to teach me.

Rage is available now! Get your copy from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Indiebound, or Book Depository, and don’t forget to add it on Goodreads, too!
