Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder is known for releasing some excellent extended editions on his DVD/Blu-ray releases, and now it looks like he’ll be releasing an R-rated version of Batman v Superman.

It might be surprising to hear about an R-rated cut of a PG-13 film that’s yet to hit theaters, especially one that has so much riding on its success, but Zack Snyder’s director’s cut of his previous comic film Watchmen felt like an entirely new film.

There’s been rumors that WB are concerned about the early response to Batman v Superman, which makes us think there could be some surprising news about the success of the film at the theater, but Zack Snyder is moving forward with Justice League filming, and he’ll move forward with a Batman v Superman rated R director’s cut.

In the tweets seen above, Stitch Kingdom, who are normally very reliable about DVD/Blu-ray release info, reveal that the director’s cut won’t just be additional scenes, but a reworking of the film to be more violent and definitely R-rated.

What’s ironic is that Deadpool just hit theaters and blew past $500 million despite its R-rating, so we’re curious if this leak is a way to bring some of the current excitement on R-rated comic book movies over to the release of the PG-13 film’s release.

Either way, after Batman v Superman hits theaters next month, it’ll be interesting to see how it does at the box office, despite early rumors that it has some issues. We hope the director’s cut is as well executed as Watchmen’s was because fans could be in for a huge treat.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
