A criminal investigation into R. Kelly is officially underway in Georgia thanks to Lifetime’s recent docuseries, Surviving R. Kelly.

According to Complex, the investigation on R. Kelly was officially opened through the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office as a direct result of Lifetime’s gritty docuseries, which first debuted on Janurary 8.

Additionally, TMZ, who was first to report the news, says investigators were “flooded with calls once the docuseries aired.”

As part of the investigation, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office have reportedly reached out to multiple survivors featured on Surviving R. Kelly. One such survivor they’ve reached out to is Asante McGee, a woman who allegedly escaped the singer’s home.

Investigators are also working with an attorney for Joycelyn Savage’s family. Savage, 23, has been living in Kelly’s Atlanta home for several years. Her family claims that Savage has been brainwashed and is prohibited from leaving Kelly’s home and from having contact with the outside world.

Those close to the case say that the investigation could find Kelly facing multiple charges — including that of false imprisonment.

Lifetime’s six-part docuseries, which aired over three nights, shines a spotlight on Kelly’s history of alleged abuse and sexual misconduct with minors. Surviving R. Kelly interviews former employees and survivors who recount what they experienced and witnessed while in Kelly’s inner circle.

R. Kelly continues to deny the allegations made against him.
