A Quentin Tarantino-directed Star Trek movie? Sure. It’s 2017. Anything goes.
Update: Deadline is now reporting that Mark L. Smith is the frontrunner to pen Quentin’s Star Trek movie. What’s more, Paramount is okay with the movie being R-rated.
Quentin Tarantino has an idea for a Star Trek movie. Yup, that’s right. According to Deadline, the infamous director has approached Paramount with the idea, and J.J. Abrams is now working to assemble a writers’ room to put together a movie.

Tarantino, who plans to retire after two more movies, will likely direct the feature when/if it gets the green light, with Abrams producing.
This would be Tarantino’s first franchise film, and Star Trek is certainly an interesting choice. But the franchise is known for going boldly, after all, a philosophy that Tarantino’s films certainly embrace. There’s more scope in this franchise to get more edgy (though probably not as edgy as Tarantino is used to), as compared to something like Star Wars.
Quentin Tarantino is currently working on a period piece for Sony Pictures loosely based on Charles Manson’s murders in 1969s Los Angeles, with Margot Robbie in talks to play victim Sharon Tate.
