Quentin Tarantino enjoyed making Django Unchained so much that he’s revisiting the western genre again.

Tarantino stopped by The Tonight Show last night for one final time (at least under current host Jay Leno), and the visit was more interesting than you would expect.

When Leno asked him what he wasn’t currently working on, Tarantino said this:

I can’t talk that much about it, but I will say one thing. I haven’t told anyone about this publicly, but I will say the genre. It’s a western. It’s not a “Django” sequel, but it’s another Western. I had so much fun doing Django and I love westerns so much, that after I taught myself how to make one, it’s like “OK, now let me make another one now that I know what I’m doing.”

Tarantino doesn’t specifically reveal that this script will be the movie he makes next, but as he has decided to reveal the genre, it’s more than likely that this film comes next for him. Tarantino had previously gone on record saying that a film titled Killer Crow would come next. The film would complete the historical revenge trilogy started with Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained and build upon the themes prevalent in both films, featuring a bunch of African American military troops that “go apeshit” killing white soldiers. This western script definitely isn’t that script, but Tarantino never said that movie would be next.

In the clip from the show, Tarantino also gave a good look into his screenwriting process which has evolved as of late, among other things.

Tarantino’s talk of writing on paper is particularly interesting. He says that he has to write everything down on paper to begin with and that he can’t use a computer until later. He says writers need to face the blank page rather than the blank screen, but we think that perhaps writers who grew up with the computer will find the screen more natural.

In Tarantino’s other clip from The Tonight Show, he talks his first appearance on the show.

Do you like the idea of another Tarantino western?
