Quentin Tarantino has finished the script for his next film, which for now is called The Hateful Eight. He reportedly wants Christoph Waltz and Bruce Dern to star in the film.

Deadline is reporting that Academy Award winning writer and director Quentin Tarantino has just finished his more recent script.

As Tarantino revealed at the end of November when he visited The Tonight Show for the final time under host Jay Leno, the script is indeed another western. That’s still all we know for sure, but Deadline has some unconfirmed information for us to chew on.

Assuming their sources are correct, the script has the title The Hateful Eight. This is only a working title, at least for now, but it does give us a decent idea of just how awesome the film could be. The obvious film to link the title to is The Magnificent Seven. As a western based off of a samurai film (The Seven Samurai), it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Tarantino have a western take heavy influence from a western with samurai roots.

With a name like The Hateful Eight, the film is sure to have a big cast, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some big names fill half of the spots (at minimum). Again, this depends on the correctness of Deadline’s sources, but Tarantino apparently already has a few actors in mind.

Coming as no surprise to anyone, Tarantino wants to have Christoph Waltz back in one of the roles. Waltz won Oscars for his roles in Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained, the two Tarantino films he’s been in so far. It would appear to be a no-brainer for Waltz to come back, but he could certainly try to do something less obvious now. We can only hope he does join the film.

Tarantino also apparently wants veteran actor Bruce Dern to fill one of the spots. Dern is a good candidate for an Oscar nomination this year for his film Nebraska.

At this point, Tarantino has only given the script to a few actors, and after he gets feedback from them he’ll likely go through a few more edits. The Hollywood Reporter hears that if things go well, Tarantino might even start shooting the film this summer.
