Megan Whalen Turner drops the title of the sixth Queen’s Thief book as well as the release date in a Tumblr post.

Update: Unfortunately, Return of the Thief’s release date has been delayed.

With a simple handwritten note in a picture post on tumblr, Megan Whalen Turner sent her fans into a frenzy. Return of the Thief, the newly titled sixth book of Megan’s sole series, is due to come out March 19, 2019.

While her last book, Thick as Thieves, came out last May, normally a two year gap between books in a series would be considered normal. For Megan, this is anything but.

Long time fans of the Queen’s Thief series are used to long waits between releases. The Thief was first released in 1996 while the sequel, The Queen of Attolia came out four years later.

The four year gap was the shortest wait between books until this release date cut that in half. The wait between 2010’s A Conspiracy of Kings and Thick as Thieves was her longest at seven years. With each release, the wait has been worth it.

In her tumblr post, Megan jokes in her caption “just in case you thought someone else was writing this book…” as she also pokes fun at the fact that there is usually a long wait between books. She wrote out fake, far off dates and crossed them out to reveal March 2019.

The title itself tells fans a lot more than Thick as Thieves did initially. Return of the Thief implies a lot within the universe as well as which point of views could be used. The Thief himself most certainly will come back as a POV character, which he hasn’t been since The Queen of Attolia, the second book.

Gen, the Thief, the main character of the series, starts as the sole point of view, but as the series continues he is shown through the eyes of other characters, keeping an heir of intrigue surrounding him and his scheming mind.

Known for her intricate, slow build plot twists and attention to detail and lore within the universe, Megan Whalen Turner never disappoints when it comes to storytelling and weaving a web of court intrigue that grows with each read through.

With a March release, there is plenty of time for a reread, or a first time read, before Return of the Thief hits the shelves.
