Simon Asher has always been one of the most perplexing Quantico characters, but his words still carry so much clarity and truth. Here are some of his best lines from season 1.

Warning: This post contains spoilers from Quantico season 1. If you haven’t seen it all yet, what are you doing? There’s still so much Simon for you to take in on your TV screen! It looks like we’ve just planned the rest of your day for you. You’re welcome.

Not to reopen old wounds but…it’s time to rip off those band-aids and let those wounds breathe again. Yes, Simon tragically and heroically gave his life at the end of Quantico season 1, but that doesn’t mean you get to just forget him! We’ve picked out some of Simon’s most poignant words from his time at Alex Parrish’s side to help you remember this beautiful character. These quotes highlight all of the many facets of Simon’s personality, and everything that he was to the people who loved him.

The man of mystery

With this line, Simon deftly articulated one of the recurring themes of Quantico season 1: that people aren’t always are rarely what they seem. No matter how close Alex got to one of her fellow trainees (or teachers), there was always more secrets to uncover about them. Since Simon lived much of his life undercover in one way or another, he knew this truth better than almost anyone.

The cheeky one

One of Simon’s rare (but amazing) light and funny lines. If this line had come out of Caleb’s mouth, it would have gone unnoticed next to all of his snide and sarcastic remarks, but hearing it from Simon made it hilarious and special. Of course, the quote wouldn’t be complete without Alex’s suggestive reaction! These two really had the best friendship.

The onion

Simon’s Breakfast Club moment serves as one more reminder that humans are complex beings that you can rarely, if ever, fully understand. This wasn’t exactly the news Alex wanted to hear as she desperately searched for answers and allies, but it was the truth that helped her to eventually catch the traitor.

The damaged soul

So much of Simon’s life was centered around guilt; guilt for both the things he had done, and the things he hadn’t. Even though his loved ones would surely have granted him forgiveness for the things he had done (both willingly and not), the fact that he could never find that forgiveness within himself meant that his slate could never be fully cleared.

The glass door

Even though Simon spent so much time trying to cover up his real identity, all he truly wanted was to be understood, just like anyone else. He always felt like people could never really see him, but he finally found some people who were willing to look deep enough at Quantico.

The altruist

If Simon had a tagline it would be “the best of intentions going horribly, horribly wrong.” His quest to make a positive impact on the world has lead him into some very sticky situations that lead to a few catastrophic results. After getting kicked out of Quantico, he finally found a way to help that didn’t put him, or anyone else in danger. He also alerted Raina to the fact that the FBI was very possibly corrupt long before any of the NATs knew what was coming.

The brave one

Just because you know you’re doing something good, doesn’t mean it won’t terrify you. Simon learned this unfortunate truth as he sped towards the bridge where he would meet his tragic end. Luckily, Simon was as dauntless as ever, and didn’t let that fear stop him from doing what had to be done.

The savior

This line was, of course, meant for Simon’s friends, but we’re choosing to keep it for ourselves as well. Alex will remember Simon as the man who was there for her when she couldn’t trust anyone else, and we will remember him as the wonderfully complex Quantico character that made us laugh, cry and everything in between.

RIP Simon Asher.
