Shelby still owes us an explanation as to why she was caught doing the Voice’s dirty work. What will she divulge in Quantico season 1, episode 19, “Fast”?
We were just as surprised as Alex when it was Shelby who drove up to take Simon and Will away for the Voice. Her life has definitely been a roller coaster ride since graduating from Quantico, but what could have happened to make her get into that car?
In this sneak peek for Quantico season 1, episode 19, Shelby gives Alex some of the answers we’re looking for:
This finally explains why she was the driver of the car. That is, if she’s telling the truth, of course. The Voice got Shelby involved by threatening Caleb’s life. She wasn’t even aware that she would be picking up Simon and Will, and has been working to figure out who the Voice is since it happened!
Even though that tells us she isn’t the mastermind behind the attacks, Shelby still has a lot of explaining to do. Here are some other questions we need her to answer in Quantico season 1, episode 19.
1. When did she rejoin the FBI?
The last time we checked, Shelby was on an entirely different career path. She left the FBI after her affair with Caleb’s papa became public knowledge, but it looks like she is very much a member of the FBI in Quantico season 1, episode 19.
This brings up a lot of questions. First of all, can you just rejoin the FBI after quitting, or do you have to go through another screening process to get back in? Second of all, did she get past the disgrace that she felt about the affair, or did something else lead her to come back?
The last time we saw her in the Grand Central timeline, she was definitely not on Team Alex, as she blamed her for her affair becoming public. She seems to be on much better terms with Alex now, so it’s definitely possible that she just got over the shame she was feeling before and decided to forgive her friend and come back to her job.
Alternatively, with everything going on, she may have just decided that she needed to be a part of the FBI to get the information she needed. It’s also possible that she is just sneaking around in FBI headquarters, but she seems pretty out in the open in the clip from the episode.
2. What were the “personal things” that the Voice knew about her?
Shelby mentioned to Alex that the Voice knew “personal things” about her, but then says that she only helped them because they threatened Caleb’s life. Were the personal things only about her history with Caleb? It’s interesting that the Voice didn’t use her parents as the leverage to blackmail her, especially since her and Caleb are at odds right now, as far as we know. This could mean she eventually found out about her parents’ motives and is not attached to them anymore.
3. What’s going on with her and Caleb?
Was Shelby on the other end of that cryptic phone call of Caleb’s in the last episode? The sneak peek makes it clear that they’re working together in some capacity, as she mentions that Caleb was supposed to keep Alex out of the office. We know that Shelby and Caleb probably won’t work out long term, or even short term, but could they be reconciled right now?
4. Why does she suddenly look so villainous?
At Quantico, Shelby’s appearance could almost always be described as cute and young. All of a sudden, she is rocking some serious fake eyelashes and eyeliner, and has adopted a primarily black wardrobe which would be perfect for some late night heists. Her look was also more adult when we saw her elsewhere in the Grand Central timeline, but this is a big departure from that as well. Does the Voice demand that you look the part when you join the squad? Why didn’t Alex get the memo about the dress code?
Maybe Shelby is just trying to keep up with Caleb’s multiple identities. If this is her alter ego, somebody should probably tell her to go a little bigger with it.
