USA Network announced today that it’s longest running original show, Psych will not return after the current season 8.

This news, though just announced, was apparently not a surprise to the show’s cast and crew. According to The Hollywood Reporter, creator Steve Franks considers the finale one of his favorites of the show and “has a degree of closure that will be satisfying.” The Psych series finale will air March 26 at 9PM with an hour-long special, Psych After Show, directly following. This will feature a Q&A with Steve Franks and the cast from the show, to be filmed in Los Angeles.

The show, which has become a cornerstone on the network since it’s debut in 2006, had an impressive year last year, from it’s 100th episode airing last Spring, to a fantastic showing at San Diego Comic-Con in July, to the eagerly anticipated two-hour musical event last December.

Ratings for Psych peaked around season 4, with about 4 million viewers an episode, but has recently begun to decline, averaging 1.7-2.8 million viewers during season 8.

The series creator and the show’s writer room took to Twitter to express their gratitude, and James Roday and Dule Hill released a video, thanking the fans.

The show’s cast has been more spread out across the entertainment industry than ever before, perhaps part of the reason for the show’s end. Dule Hill, Gus on the show, is currently staring on Broadway in the musical After Midnight, and Timothy Omundson guest-starred on Supernatural earlier this year.

What do you think, Psych-o’s?

Is it the right time for the show to end? We’ll be left to think of our own “Gus, don’t be a…” from now on.

The Psych series finale will air March 26 at 9PM.
