Prometheus 2 was announced earlier this year and may be one giant leap closer to pre-production, as reports are swirling that the sequel may finally have  a scribe.

Jack Paglen has exactly one major film credit to his name with Trancendence (which hasn’t even finished filming yet), but he may be adding the sequel to 2012’s Prometheus to that list.

The screenwriter is reportedly being eyed to pen the script for Prometheus 2, the follow-up to Ridley Scott’s return to the sci-fi genre. Prometheus told the story of scientists and explorers teaming up to uncover clues to the origins of mankind. The futuristic thriller chronicled their terrifying and mysterious adventures to the edge of the Universe.

Paglen is co-writer of the upcoming Transcendence, the directorial debut of veteran Chris Nolan cinematographer, Wally Pfister. Like Prometheus, the sci-fi drama boasts a large ensemble cast. The cast is headed up by Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman, and includes Kate Mara, Paul Bettany, and Cillian Murphy.

Transcendence is currently filming in Los Angeles and is not scheduled to hit theaters until April of 2014. However, the film’s cast and director are already beginning to garner blockbuster buzz.

Paglen’s involvement in Prometheus 2, though not yet confirmed, could mean a high profile entry into the Hollywood stratosphere for the screenwriter, whose other credits are short films.

Scott’s production company announced the film in February and since then, original co-screenwriter, Damon Lindelof said he would not be involved with the sequel.

There is no word yet on whether co-writer John Spaihts will be involved or if Scott will return as director, though it is likely he will.

So far, original film stars Michael Fassbender and Noomi Repace are attached to reprise their roles in the follow-up, which is rumored to be eyeing an early 2015 release.
