Earlier this week, news broke that the filming of series three of Sherlock would have to be postponed from its original January start date. Producer Sue Vertue has now weighed in on the speculation.

The two main stars of Sherlock are about to be quite busy as we reported the other day. Both Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have major movie projects with PR tours and post-production requirements on their plates. All of this is necessitating a bit of creative juggling of schedules regarding the start date for the filming of the next Sherlock series.

Speculation has abounded that a delay in filming would equal a delay in broadcast both in the U.K. and in the U.S.A. Apparently, though, that is not the case as producer Sue Vertue took to her Twitter to explain.

This all bodes well for Sherlock fans who are impatiently awaiting the resolution to last series cliffhanger. Though no official broadcast date has ever been announced, making it somewhat difficult to verify if there is a delay or not, fans are hoping for a summer transmission in the U.K. and a fall transmission in the U.S.A. These dates would loosely parallel previous filming to release turnover times.

In the interim, fans will have to satisfy themselves seeing Martin Freeman on the big screen as the title character in The Hobbit, and Benedict Cumberbatch in the next Star Trek installment where he is rumored to portray the classic villain Khan.

Which are you more eager to see Freeman in The Hobbit or Cumberbatch in Star Trek?
