It’s been 15 years since Mia Thermopolis entered our lives on the big screen, and Anne Hathaway is feeling a little sentimental today.

The Princess Diaries first premiered in 2001 and has become a classic Anne Hathaway comedy in the years since, soon followed by a second movie in 2004. The film has permeated pop culture, providing us with all the one-liners and GIFs we could ever need.

But the celebration is not without some sadness, as Director Garry Marshall died in July of complications following a stroke. His other achievements included creating Happy Days and Mork and Mindy, as well as directing Pretty Woman, among many, many other accomplishments.

But today is about Princess Diaries and its 15 year anniversary. Taking to Instagram, Anne Hathaway posted a funny and heartwarming tribute to the movie, its fans, and Garry Marshall in particular.

In March of this year, we told you about the back-and-forth of The Princess Diaries 3, about which both Hathaway and Marshall said they were on board to create. They talked about bringing Mia back to the States, to New York in particular, and whether or not Chris Pine could fit them into his busy schedule.

Moving forward with Princess Diaries 3 is still up in the air following the iconic director’s death. It would be a shame to do the movie without him, but then again, what a wonderful tribute it would be to honor him one last time with a final outing for Mia Thermopolis.
