On tonight’s episode of Pretty Little Liars season 5, episode 4, “Thrown from the Ride,” gives us hope for the future of Ezria.

The episode opens to Aria and Emily searching through used books at the school. Within moments Aria stumbles upon The Scarlet Letter which happened to be owned by Shanna. Aria starts reading parts underlined by Shanna when Mona interrupts saying “Shanna doesn’t need that anymore… since she transferred to a different school.” And the Aria downward spiral has been setup.

While the girls are already at school, Ali is still at home trying to convince her dad to let her go back to Rosewood High. Mr. DiLaurentis has other plans for his daughter and mentions moving away from there. Basically what any rational parent would do after believing his daughter was kidnapped and discovering his wife to have been murdered. But that would make too much sense, so we don’t bet on it actually happening.

Sexy Lucas (that’s what we’re calling him now) and Mona have a bit of a quarrel over how they are going to move forward with plan “Destroy Alison.” Sexy Lucas still believes that Ali was abducted but Mona sets him straight and tells him the truth.

At lunch the Liars minus Ali are in the courtyard going over what Mona may or may not know regarding Ali and New York.

Wait, wasn’t Spencer just at home? How do these girls travel to and from school so often? Don’t they need hall passes? Does detention even exist in this world? These are the real questions we need answered!

Andrew from the debate club shows up randomly at Spencer’s locker and scores a “date” to help her re-landscape her backyard. If you’re having trouble remembering him, he’s the guy who stripped down to his skivvies in the Hastings household last season.

Hannah accompanies Ali to the doctor so she can get a checkup after she was “kidnapped.” Ali records everything in the doctor’s office so the group can study it and match up their stories.

Before we continue we have to say it, we’re extremely disappointed in Hannah’s makeover. A couple strands of black in her hair? The girl isn’t really committing to this whole “new identity” thing, but we digress.

The landscaping between Spencer and Andrew leads to the inevitable almost hookup but Spencer puts a stop to it when she mentions she’s still with Toby. This doesn’t put an end to then hanging out, though, and they eventually discover a new box of rat poison in the shed.

Spencer confronts her mother about all the secrets in the family and she reveals that Mr. Hastings has been blackmailing Jessica with their affair in order to prevent Jessica for blaming Spencer for Ali’s disappearance.

The shadiness continues when Spencer cuts herself and when looking for a band-aid she stumbles across a bottle of pills matching the kind that were used to kill Jessica. Mr. DiLaurentis isn’t looking too hot right now.

After Googling Shanna’s funeral and some light hallucinations, Aria gives in to her meltdown and runs to Ezra’s apartment. It’s nice to see the pair interacting in a way that doesn’t acknowledge Ezra’s wrongdoings. They share a cute moment and Aria almost crashes on his couch but thinks better of it and returns home. Is it just us or are we seeing clear skies on the horizon?

Aria heads to Spencer’s house where she confesses that she thinks her dad killed Jessica. The episode ends with Mr. Hastings coming home, shady as ever, after having dropped off Mrs. Hastings at a spa for a few days.

We’re pretty into the theory that Mr. Hastings killed Jessica and we hope it isn’t just a red herring. We think it would be an interesting twist to have someone so close to the Liars actually be very dangerous.
