On tonight’s finale we finally find out what happened the night Ali went missing on Pretty Little Liars season 4, episode 24, “A is for Answers”.

Here we go, the finale we’ve all been waiting for. The episode starts off with the girls in a strange location and they were taken there by Noel Kahn, who apparently is also in cahoots with Ali. He brings Ali in to see the girls and after a quick round of hugs, the girls get right down to business asking Ali all about the night she went missing.

After the credits end, we are taken to the police department where CeCe is in custody. Holbrook is questioning her about Wilton’s death, but she refuses to say anything unless they strike a deal. She is willing to tell him who killed the body in Ali’s grave.

Back to the girls, Ali starts the story off in Hilton Head, where Melissa comes to see Ian because she knows he was having an affair with Alison. Ali can hear them fighting from the bedroom and promptly copies N.A.T. files off of Ian’s computer and gets out of there as soon as she can.

Believing Jenna is “A,” Ali shows Jenna the video of her and Toby to use as blackmail against her. Immediately after, she shows the video to Jenna, she gets a text from “A” proving that Jenna wasn’t her stalker and also threatening Ali’s life.

That night we see Ali put on the infamous yellow tank top, and we know this is the night it all went down. Mrs. DiLaurentis doesn’t want Ali going to the sleep over because she doesn’t trust the Hastings family, but Ali still insists on going. While Mrs. D. is on the phone, Ali swipes some sleeping pills from her mom’s purse and sneaks out the door.

When we meet up with the girls at the barn, Ali drugs their alcoholic drinks so that they fall asleep. This way, if she gets a text from “A,” she knows that she could cross her best friends off the list of suspects. When she leaves, she texts Ian to meet up with her, but before she can leave, we see her hop in the car with Ezra!

Ezra tells her that he likes her and doesn’t want to see her get hurt, but not before he freaks out on her a bit for lying. We’re happy to see Ezra shutting it down as soon as he learns the truth about her age. As much as we hate what Ezra did to Aria, we’re still looking for a bit of redemption for his character.

Speaking of redemption, Ezra is apparently still looking for Ali because he thinks that if he saves Ali, he will win Aria back.

After that brief meeting, Ali goes to meet Ian, who thinks he’s in the clear of police charges because they haven’t had sex. Ali tells him about all his home videos she copied and how she is willing to use them against him. After Ian storms away, Ali returns to the barn only to see a drugged out Spencer awake and ready to rumble.

Spencer is a bit ticked about Ali and Ian’s relationship, and she picks up that notorious shovel. As we see her attack Ali, she slips and as she stumbles, her drugs fall out of her pocket. Ali finally found out Spencer’s secret drug problem and tries to tell her to never take the drugs again, especially with alcohol. Points to Ali for being a good friend. Actually, points to Ali for a lot of things this episode.

Believing that none of her friends are “A,” Ali returns home for the night. Before she makes it inside, though, she is attacked from behind with a rock to the head, and Mrs. DiLaurentis sees it all go down through the window. Thinking she is dead, Mrs. D. tries to protect Ali’s attacker as she helps he or she bury the “body” in a grave behind their house.

How awful was that scene when Ali describes not being able to yell for help as she sees her mother dump dirt on her grave?

After Ali gets out, Mona sees her walking on the side of the road. She ends up helping her out and taking Ali to the Lost Woods Resort. Mona is actually the one who suggests that Ali should disappear in order for “A” to think she really is dead.

As Ali sleeps, the camera pans to another room, and we see the same lair that had Ali’s photos plastered all over the walls. So Mona’s had that “Ali sanctuary” before she was on the “A” team? Creepy.

At the Hastings’ house, the police are searching the house because Holbrook knows that the girls know Alison’s location. Just as Mrs. Hastings find out Ali is alive, Melissa drops in for a surprise visit because Toby told her about Spencer’s relapse.

Holbrook takes Mrs. Hastings and Melissa both in for questioning, and without their knowledge, Mr. Hastings is being questioned as well. Holbrook is using this opportunity to find out why the Hastings hired a private investigator to follow Spencer around. When Melissa finds her dad, she reveals that Spencer didn’t kill the girl in Ali’s coffin, but she does lean over and whisper something in his ear. Does Melissa know who the real killer is?

As Ali finishes her story, a masked figure shoots through the window of the room the girls are in and chases them to the roof. After they get to the top, Ezra miraculously appears to help out. Where on Earth did he even come from?

“A” also makes it to the roof, but Ezra attacks him or her and the gun hits the floor. Hannah grabs for the gun and the person jumps over the side of the building and lands on the roof of another building. As “A” gets away, we realize Ezra has been shot, and he collapses as the girls scream for the help. The shot fades away and we don’t know if he is dead or alive.

The ending scene is of “A” dragging Mrs. DiLaurentis’ body through the grass and burying her in a hole.

What just happened? We’re happy to finally understand the full picture from the night Ali went missing and we absolutely still have plenty of new questions to add to the mix.
