Pretty Little Liars season 4, episode 17, “Bite Your Tongue,” aired tonight with danger all around for the girls and their families. Beware of spoilers as you read on!

Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Aria (Lucy Hale) have a fun friends’ night until they argue about Spencer’s (Troian Bellisario) intentions. Meanwhile Mike (Cody Christian) has a party, which Aria is not a fan of. Spencer is trying to decipher Ali’s (Sasha Pieterse) journal while Hanna (Ashley Benson) is obsessed with James Patterson’s novels. Apparently Emily is also not happy with Hanna for her lack of agreement about Spencer.

Mona (Janel Parrish) is now friends with Mike and snooping in Aria’s room. Mike and Aria argue over Mona as she points out her involvement in breaking up their family and torturing her last year. Emily’s car is fine after the GPS glitch, as her dad points out remote location activation.

Maggie (Larissa Oleynik) is back to get her security deposit while Malcolm (Teo Briones) is still in Seattle. Ezra (Ian Harding) is not pleased about the lack of Malcolm but reassures himself with “people get what they deserve, eventually.”

Officer Holbrook (Sean Faris) apologizes to Hanna for interfering in her and her mom’s lives in the investigation of Detective Wilden’s (Bryce Johnson) murder. Mona continues to cozy up to Mike despite Aria’s pleading not to. Mona is still mad about being exed out of the Pretty Little Liars’ group when they no longer needed her.

Andrew (Brandon Jones) clues Spencer into the fact that there’s a physics test that day and covers for her absence. Officer Holbrook continues to try to become friends with Hanna by giving her a tip about reading Patterson. Aria stops by the new guidance counselor Jesse’s office to try to get him to see her side with little luck. Emily’s dad (Eric Steinberg) stops by to talk to Ezra about Emily’s problems, confiding that Mrs. DiLaurentis (Andrea Parker) still expects Alison to come back.

Spencer studies with Andrew who thinks she’s flirting with him, only to discover that she’s trying to get drugs out of him. He agrees to give her some of his prescription pills and admits his crush. Meanwhile, Emily freaks out on her dad as she thinks he’s a prowler.

Through a journal entry, Spencer discovers that Ali showed her writing and her flirting ability to a mystery man. The man likes boysenberry pie with beer, before he likes kissing Ali. Spencer turns up at Hanna’s as she figures out the bar is right outside Hollis College. Hanna decides to go to Ali’s dentist to find out whose dental records were actually used to identify the body.

Aria confronts Maggie over Malcolm’s absence and it gets ugly. Maggie accuses Aria of maintaining her grades due to her relationship with Ezra and Aria pushes Maggie’s box to the ground.

Emily is now co-directing the spring play with Ezra per her dad’s request. Mike and Mona are officially a thing judging by their make-out. Hanna’s dentist is her ex-boyfriend Sean’s (Chuck Hittinger) mother which makes it awkward that she’s there to steal a file. Spencer goes to the pub only to find Ezra with boysenberry pie.

Aria tells Ezra about the run-in with Maggie and is extended an offer of a session by Jesse once again. Someone puts Hanna under anesthesia while Spencer figures out that Ezra is Ali’s guy in the story. And in possibly the biggest surprise of the night, the beer that Ezra drinks is called Board Shorts Ale.

Late at night, Emily is spooked once more at school as someone uses scare tactics to freak her out. Hanna wakes up from the anesthesia only to find the file gone and blood on her lip. Emily calls her dad to save her and keeps out A using furniture. Her dad literally scales the building to save her but is knocked out after rescuing her. Emily calls 911 and her dad is transported to the hospital for an apparent heart condition.

Looking strung out, Spencer comforts Emily as the Pretty Little Liars gather. Spencer finds an actual message that was implanted in Hanna’s mouth. In the final scene A shreds the dentist’s appointment sheet while Polly the parrot chats on.
