Pretty Little Liars revealed fissures in one relationship, the strengthening of another, a mental breakdown, and a critical injury in “What Becomes of the Broken Hearted.” What follows is a recap, so naturally spoilers are included from this episode.

The episode begins with Hanna (Ashley Benson), Aria (Lucy Hale), and Emily (Shay Mitchell) discussing Spencer’s (Troian Bellisario) MIA act after she ditches first period as previously revealed in a released clip. Andrew (Brandon Jones) kicks Spencer off of the academic decathlon team and Emily’s words of comfort don’t seem to help her when she gets a warning from A in her sunglasses.

Now at the coffee shop, Hanna decides to go to Amish country to meet with Caleb’s (Tyler Blackburn) uncle while Aria resolves to talk to the coach of the decathlon team for Spencer. It seems like Spencer can trust her friends, if only she would tell them her secret.

Aria lies to Mrs. Fitzgerald about Wesley’s (Gregg Sulkin) stay. Do you think Ezra (Ian Harding) really knows that his brother is staying there? Cece (Vanessa Ray) dismisses Emily’s idea that Wilden (Bryce Johnson) might be Ali’s (Sasha Pieterse) beach hottie. Spencer decides to play strip quiz with Andrew in order to get her spot back on the team. Do you think she’s gone off the deep end?

Hanna makes her trip alone to see Jamie (Bernard Curry) and confirms her theory that he’s Caleb’s dad. He claims he’s not a good father as seen by his past stint in jail. Hanna reaffirms her belief that he should be involved. Emily prevents what could have been a good moment between Andrew and Spencer. Do you appreciate Andrew’s intelligence and good looks?

Wesley is banished by his mom so he might venture to Spain or Halifax. Will you miss little Fitz? Cece begs Aria to photograph her store’s merchandise and she decides to bring Wesley along. Do you think that’s because she’s worried about Ezra and Maggie (Larisa Oleynik)?

As a previously released clip showed, Hanna and Caleb argue over her involvement in tracking down his father. Whose side are you on?

Jason (Drew Van Acker) believes Spencer’s claim that Wilden is involved despite Emily’s attempt to get him to back off. Wren (Julian Morris) experiences an awkward moment with his ex-girlfriend Melissa (Torrey DeVitto) as he tries to help Spencer on Mona’s (Janel Parrish) behalf.

Caleb and Hanna make up as he confronts his fears and agrees to see his father. Unfortunately Jamie is late and Caleb gets antsy, but he does show. Meanwhile Cece congratulates Aria on snagging another brother, which Wesley gets the pleasure of hearing.

Jason and Emily go to his house only to find bottles and bottles of alcohol on his porch. An interesting message to be sending to teens. Wesley and Aria casually enjoy wine to set the mood until they have an accident. Jason adds to the mystery that Allison might still be alive by saying the prank of the bottles was reminiscent of her. Do you think she might still be alive? To the thankfulness of the Pretty Little Liars fans, Jason reveals that he is not friends with Mona, but rather is trying to find out from her about who dug up Allison’s grave. Cece’s lie of not knowing Wilden comes to light in an old photograph as does Cece’s connection to Melissa.

Spencer faces off against Mona at the academic decathlon and ends up engaging in a catfight. Janel Parrish’s acting was superb in this scene. Ashley Benson sums up this scene pretty well in her tweet below.

To prevent Wesley from spending a night in his car, Aria offers her place for the night. Cece abandoned them and lied to them about her location. Uh oh.

Hanna and Caleb share a sweet moment as Pastor Ted (Edward Kerr) hires Jamie. Jason and Emily get stuck in an elevator while Wren covers for Spencer to Melissa. Wesley kisses Aria, who responds until she pulls back. Emily fearfully climbs out of the elevator, just in time as Jason plummets to the bottom of the elevator shaft. Hanna sees Jamie pay for the pizza using the money she paid to the church box. Poor Hanna.

Jason survives to tell Emily that he lost the photo of Ali, Cece, and Wilden and that he thinks someone is out to get him. The other Pretty Little Liars come to check on Jason, but not before he disappears. Do you think someone grabbed him?

What did you think of this episode? Do you miss Fitz and Paige (Lindsey Shaw)? Do you trust Cece?
