Pretty Little Liars returned Tuesday with shocking developments in “Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Inferno” that featured an arrest, secrets revealed, and two relationships in danger. What follows is a recap, so naturally spoilers are included from this episode.

Spencer (Troian Bellisario) has a pleasant rendezvous with Toby (Keegan Allen) until it turns into a scary nightmare, reminding her of his betrayal. Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Aria (Lucy Hale) have yet another debate telling Spencer about the possibility of Melissa (Tory DeVitto) being involved in Allison’s death. Nate still haunts Emily with his family returning her old letters to Allison (Sasha Pieterse). Meanwhile, Hanna (Ashley Benson) gets the third degree from her mom about Mona’s (Janel Parrish) return to Rosewood High and Caleb’s (Tyler Blackburn) protector status.

Byron (Chad Lowe) informs Aria that Meredith (Amanda Schull) went off her medication and will no longer be around the family. This should have happened a long time ago. Byron feels bad about his recent lack of parenting skills. Do you think Ella (Holly Marie Combs) or Byron is the better parent?

As previously previewed by Hypable, Spencer still has not told the girls about Toby’s betrayal and Aria still has not told Ezra (Ian Harding) about his son. Hanna, Aria, and Emily try to figure out who was writing about Toby with Ali before she died. Hanna discovers that Paige (Lindsey Shaw) and Caleb have been teaming up to scare Mona at school, like putting a cow brain in her locker.

When questioned by Emily about the notebook, Spencer asks why they still care about Allison. In a flashback, we see Allison interrogating Toby in juvenile detention about the notes she’s been getting. She reveals that she wasn’t the only one outside Jenna’s house that night. Do you think that’s why Toby turned to the A Team?

Spencer tells Emily that she and Toby broke up without saying why. To top off her great day, she leaves school to comfort Aria, who was just dumped by Fitz. Spencer defends Aria’s honor and gives Fitz a verbal beat down about breaking up with Aria and ends up revealing the secret about Maggie (Larisa Oleynik). Oops?

Fitz confronts Aria at school, much to her dismay. Fitz thought he could trust Aria and walks off. Yet another relationship issue caused by A.

Detective Wilden (Bryce Johnson) gives Emily’s mother (Nia Peeples) some seemingly good advice about Emily seeking therapy. Do you think this was friendly advice or do you think Wilden has an alternative motive? Aria comes to make sure Spencer is surviving but instead gets tough love from Spencer, who thinks they need to start owning up to their lies.

CeCe (Vanessa Ray) relates to Emily that Ali thought she was pregnant by the mysterious beach hottie. Do you think it was Ian (Ryan Merriman) or someone else?

On her mission to find out what Paige and Caleb are up to, Hanna inadvertently goes to a gay bar. Against all reason and sense, Spencer plans to meet up with, presumably, Toby while Hanna accidentally messes with someone else’s girl. Who do you think Paige was meeting with in the club? Do you think the girl was a new love interest for Paige or part of the Mona mystery? Emily turns to Aria to try to deal with the latest Ali bombshell. Emily hands over the notebook to Detective Wilden while Hanna gets arrested for underage drinking. Biggest shocker of the episode: Wilden was in Cape May as well! Could he be the beach hottie?

Spencer still has some sense and meets with a private detective instead to trail Toby and discover where the key leads. To signal the end of Spoby, she rips the picture of them apart. Are you sad that they’re over, for now?

Hanna is in trouble with her mom, while Ezra decides to leave town for a bit after talking with Maggie. Do you think his leaving will make room for Aria to lean on Wes?

What did you think of this episode? Do you think Ezra and Aria will last this season? Do you think Spencer should tell the others?
