Pretty Little Liars season 7, episode 10, “The Darkest Knight,” did leave us speechless, but thankfully we weren’t the ones left headless.

One death, one huge reveal, one pregnancy, and three lives hanging in the balance. That’s what I call a Pretty Little Liars summer finale! As usual, we have way more questions than answers following the episode, but at least we’ll have plenty to talk about while we wait until April, when the final 10 episodes of Pretty Little Liars will air.

The first 45 minutes of the summer finale consisted of everybody, including the notorious Rosewood P.D., trying to catch Noel Kahn. Caleb has been pouring over the files found in Jenna’s room for a few episodes now, and he must’ve finally found enough evidence to call the police. We still have no idea what that evidence is, but Emily made a comment (“everything you just told us”) that made it seem like he brought new information forward.

The alternative to this, is that the police are just blindly believing the Liars when they say that Noel, Jenna, and Mary are involved, which wouldn’t really make sense. However, it wouldn’t even come close to being the most incompetent thing the Rosewood P.D. has done, so we can’t be too certain.

At the beginning of Pretty Little Liars season 7, episode 10, Hanna was still flying solo. It seems like there were two sides to her plan. One side, was to coerce a confession out of her extremely unconscious hostage, using a very menacing looking knife. The fact that Hanna was willing to stab Noel in the leg really showed how determined she was to get justice, and how sure she was that Noel was her torturer.

The second part of her plan, was to prove that Noel was Mary Drake’s second child. Despite all of her determination, she began to crack while she waited for her prisoner, and the lab technician to speak. When she finally realized that she was in way over her head, she was forced to call the one person she knew she could count on.

I’m sure my Vandermarin heart isn’t the only one that burst when that person was Mona! Of course, Mona came running to Hanna’s rescue. She started out being just as awesome as ever. She found the flash drive of evidence that Noel stole from Spencer, and helped Hanna come up with a plan so she could go home. After that, however, I was a little disappointed in Miss Vanderwaal.

Mona is usually the one person we can depend on to figure things out for the Liars. She often shows up to save them when things look bad, and can usually think her way out of any sticky situation. Her involvement in Pretty Little Liars season 7, episode 10, was questionable, at best. Telling Jenna to leave town, and simply sitting in the Radley lobby waiting for her, seemed very unMona. So much so, that I was even beginning to suspect that she was in on it.

That suspicion only rose when we found out that Noel broke free of his captivity. Besides Hanna, Mona was the only person who knew where he was, so she may have let him loose. That being said, Hanna doesn’t have much experience with tying up hostages, so he may have gotten free himself, or somehow contacted someone else on his team.

The Pretty Little Liars summer finale really began when Noel sent that text to the Liars. They had the flash drive that exposed him, and he had the video that exposed Hanna. Why either of these two articles exist in the first place is completely beyond me, but they do, so I’ll go with it.

The meeting place that Noel suggested was an old school for the blind, so naturally, Jenna was also involved. She instructed the Liars to leave the flash drive on a coffee table, which they did, and prompted them to go upstairs to retrieve the video. Things were actually going pretty well, until Emily forgot her phone by the stupid, fake baby (potential foreshadowing for Emison?).

Noel finally made his inevitable appearance when Hanna and Emily were alone. He made it clear that they would not be allowed to leave, since they “know too much,” even though they know nothing. He grabbed a weapon that had absolutely no business being at a school for the blind, told them that they couldn’t hide (he was right), and started hunting.

Finally, we come to that scene. One second I was screaming with elation at Hanna and Emily’s badassery, and the next, I was screaming in terror at what happened to Noel! Hanna wanted revenge for what he did to her, and she definitely got it, even if it was unintentional.

That was, without a doubt, the most gruesome death that we’ve seen on Pretty Little Liars, to date. There’s usually some doubt on this show about whether a character is actually dead, but after seeing his detached head literally roll down the stairs, I think we can be pretty certain.

Before Noel died, he mentioned that he taught Jenna a lot, but that she taught him and Charlotte how to smell fear. This basically confirms that Jenna was involved in the dollhouse as well. They were all working together as some sort of sick, torture team.

After Noel was eliminated, the Liars still had a blind girl with a gun to worry about. I’m sure Alison was Jenna’s main target, but she was literally shooting blindly, so she hit Spencer! That girl has been through way too much in season 7. Give someone else a turn, for once, Pretty Little Liars.

I honestly thought that Jenna might grant Spencer some sort of reprieve, since she might really care about Toby. However, it definitely looked like she was going to take that second shot before Mary Drake came out of nowhere (seriously, where did she come from?) and knocked her out.

Apparently neither Noel, Jenna, Sydney, nor Mary Drake are A.D., because the real A.D. is the person that took Jenna away. Were they just hiding there the entire time, making sure their plan, whatever that may be, worked? All we really know right now is that getting Jenna to safety was more important than hurting the Liars, so that’s something, I guess.

We now know that those results Hanna paid for were definitely not a match, because Spencer is Mary Drake’s second child! This means she’s related to not just Mary, but Charlotte, Ali, and Jason…again. We still don’t know if Spencer’s father is the one she’s known her whole life, or someone else, but this huge reveal will surely have repercussions for Spencer in Pretty Little Liars season 7B. That is, if Spencer survives.

Spencer’s life isn’t the only one hanging in the balance after the Pretty Little Liars season 7A finale. Toby and Yvonne were either run off the road by A.D., or just drove off the road in a completely unrelated incident, and neither of them looked to be in good shape.

Spencer will likely be okay, especially after the huge Mary Drake reveal, but Toby could be in real trouble. The Spoby goodbye kiss earlier in Pretty Little Liars season 7, episode 10, and the text that he never sent to Spencer, could both add up to a tragic goodbye for his character. Alternatively, Yvonne could be dead, leaving the path clear for Spoby in the future. (Yay! Sorry, Yvonne).

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until April 2017 to learn the fate of these characters, and what else lies in store for the Liars after this crazy night!
