It’s always hard to know who to believe on Pretty Little Liars, but there’s three people that we definitely can’t trust.

Pretty Little Liars season 7, episode 5, “Along Came Mary,” saw Alison released from Welby into the capable and caring hands of her aunt, Mary Drake. From what we’ve seen from Welby so far, they really need to have a more extensive background check process! Since they’re taking a Radley-like approach to rehabilitation, we’ll have to try to do the research for them.

This is the most we’ve seen of Mary on Pretty Little Liars, but we’re still no closer to understanding her. One minute she’s shadily hustling Aria out the door, and the next she’s basically singing Ali lullabies. If she’s completely innocent, she has an interesting way of showing it. That being said, Pretty Little Liars loves to set people up to be super sketchy and then reveal that their secret actually has nothing to do with the mystery at hand. Lucas’ gambling debt, anyone?

Ali would prefer to be with someone in her actual family but apparently they’re nowhere to be found. Jason has been completely unreachable and is supposedly doing something with the Carissimi Group, and their father could still be paralyzed on the floor of the cell where Charlotte confessed for all we know! Since she’s stuck with her estranged aunt, she’s determined to get some answers.

Mary Drake explains that Elliot called her in London to inform her of Charlotte’s liberation and subsequent murder. Mary was on board with Elliot’s plan to get Charlotte’s money from the Carissimi Group, but wasn’t involved in any of the weird torture-y stuff that happened after that. That sounds great Mary, but I’m pretty sure we know you arrived in Philadelphia from Heathrow before Charlotte’s death! Something is definitely up with this woman.

Despite her lying tendencies and odd habits, she was genuinely kind to Ali when she found out Elliot stole all her money (along with Mary’s money presumably). Elliot Rollins, who we now know is Archer Dunhill, used his power of attorney to empty all of her accounts.

So we now know Archer Dunhill’s name, but the list of things we don’t know about him is so much longer. We learned that he figured out that Alison didn’t kill Charlotte, so where was he taking her the night of his death? Is it possible that he took the money out for him and Alison to run away together? Not likely. It’s pretty clear his love for Alison is non-existent and if that was the case the police should have found the money by now. That is, unless the Liars were complete idiots and buried him with thousands of dollars in his pockets!

The other big question regarding Archer Dunhill is how he got to Baltimore? That’s pretty far for even a ghost to travel since the Liars meant to make it look like he went to Philly! With Detective Marco on the case it looks like Rosewood’s finest is actually putting in some work on this one, so the Liars could be in trouble.

Aside from the fascinating episode of Keeping Up with the DiLaurentis’, the rest of Pretty Little Liars season 7, episode 5, was one of the more disappointing episodes of the season. The show is at its best when everyone is working together (the bigger the group the better), and way too many people were M.I.A. this week. At least Emily and Aria tried to be useful, but Spencer was pointlessly chasing a rogue Caleb (she should’ve just used an incense), and we barely saw Hanna at all! When we did see her, she was just caught up in Spencer’s dumb storyline.

Emily’s shining moment was when she just could not handle how dirty Archer’s apartment was, but she did have some things going on other than digging through dirty dishes. Her love story with Sabrina fell really flat in this episode of Pretty Little Liars. The pairing seemed forced from the start, and they didn’t possess a single molecule of chemistry during their date. Also, there was really no need for that street run in to be so awkward! It was painful.

As for Aria…I think we all know what her shining moment was. She chose the worst time to leave and Ali was all of us when she threw so much shade, but Miss Montgomery had a #PLLProposal to get to! Ezra could not have been cuter with his little suit and the candles. I think it’s customary to ask permission from the parents of the girl you want to marry rather than those of your ex-girlfriend but…details!

I wasn’t sure where he was going when he compared seeing her to “the last flat stretch of track on a rollercoaster,” but he really turned it around when he added “you can breathe again.” How could Aria say no to that? Well she didn’t say no, but she didn’t say yes either. Pretty Little Liars really left us hanging on that one, but the showrunner, Marlene King, has already confirmed that there will be a wedding in this season so it looks good. She’s probably just deciding to tell him about Nicole’s phone call so it should be fine for Ezria…right guys? *panics* Right?!

Even though the #PLLProposal was the cliffhanger, it wasn’t the end of Pretty Little Liars season 7, episode 5. That spot was reserved for the reformation of the A team. Yay! Sara Harvey’s back! Said nobody ever. Of course she is working with Jenna! These gals are two peas in a pod and even if they didn’t know each other before now, they’re becoming fast allies.

That text that Emily got from A.D. was very Sara Harvey-esque, especially since Emily was the recipient. After Charlotte confessed, Sara told Emily that she had been “trying to protect her.” The fact that the text said she was an “ungrateful bitch,” screams Sara! Not to be outdone, Jenna showed up to accuse Alison of murder and very possibly tampered with the red jacket (which let Ali in on who turned her over to A.D…uh oh).

Although these girls are capable of causing all kinds of trouble on their own, they somehow wrangled an extra pair of eyes and hands for their operation. Noel Kahn has returned to do whatever it is he does on this show. Maybe we’ll finally find out what that is in Pretty Little Liars season 7.
