Pretty Little Liars season 7, episode 3, “The Talented Mr. Rollins,” showcased some aspects of the Liars that we haven’t seen before.

After everything these girls have been through since they received that first text from A, it’s amazing that they can even get out of bed in the morning. Years of physical and mental abuse are bound to have a tremendous effect on someone, and we definitely saw some evidence of the changes that have occurred within the Liars in Pretty Little Liars season 7, episode 3. One of the strongest Liars had some extremely weak moments, while two other Liars took back some of the power they’ve been lacking lately.

The promotions for Pretty Little Liars season 7 really focused on the #SaveHanna angle, which felt a little cheap when she was saved within the first hour of the season. However, she may not be as “saved” as she once lead us to believe. The effects of what happened to her in the barn finally surfaced in this episode. We still don’t know exactly what happened to her, but we know she definitely didn’t walk away from it unscathed.

Hanna is arguably the strongest, and definitely the most blunt of the entire group. For someone who is usually so straightforward and honest, she told a pretty big lie in Pretty Little Liars season 7, episode 3. Despite calling things off with Jordan, she continued to wear her ring and lead the other Liars to believe that things were still moving forward with him. As for her strength, she’s still holding onto it for now, but it’s becoming more and more obvious that she’s struggling to cope after what happened to her.

While Hanna was, in a way, silenced by her pain, both Emily and Alison found a whole new strength in this episode. Elliot has been abusing Ali for days and she’s had enough. He’s done everything he can to keep her confined but she somehow still almost managed to take him down! Unfortunately that only lead to her being further subdued, but after using her mental strength to inform her friends of her whereabouts, she broke away from his hold yet again.

Emily’s strength was found under slightly less dire circumstances, but she was still brave, nonetheless. Emily has always been the most quiet and calm Liar. She is fiercely loyal and caring, but not usually confrontational or forward unless she has to be. Even though I wasn’t expecting a relationship to develop between her and Sabrina and this kind of makes me wonder if we should be suspicious of Sabrina, it was so cool to see Emily put everything out on the table and take a risk to hopefully achieve something good for herself!

Sabrina has been a recurring character on Pretty Little Liars for a while, but this budding relationship does seem a little strange, especially because of the timing. Emily was so recently hit with an onslaught of feelings for Alison, and she is now in full #SaveAli mode! Now that she knows Ali’s marriage is basically a sham, it’s interesting that she would pursue another girl so fervently. However, I’m interested to see what this date with Sabrina leads to, and if she’s up to something more than she’s letting on.

Spencer and Aria were basically who we expected them to be in Pretty Little Liars season 7, episode 3, but that doesn’t make them any less noteworthy. Seriously, how is Spencer being so mature about the Caleb and Hanna kiss? If she could share her secret with the world, that would be great. She barely spoke to Hanna about it and it looks like they’ve basically moved on from the subject. Her and Caleb are barely hanging on by a thread, but it’s because his feelings don’t quite match hers, not because of the kiss. This girl must be some sort of magical being.

Aria took a break from her pile of boy drama to fully focus on the mission to save Alison. So the gist is, they basically handed Ali over as Charlotte’s killer, but are now doing everything they can to save her from any sort of danger. If I were Alison, I’d have a serious headache from all these mixed signals.

Aria’s intentions were perfect in this episode, but her follow through could use some work. How did she put the key in the wrong lamp, yet put everything in the trunk back exactly where she left it? Luckily she managed to get out of the house before Elliot caught her, but her mistake caused him to move Alison (which I thought he did at the end of last episode, but I guess not?).

With all the evidence stacking up against Elliot, Pretty Little Liars season 7 was beginning to feel like an open-and-shut case. He had the latex recipe that was used to make the Hanna mask, he was connected to the cow prod that was used to torture Hanna, and he had a motive in that he was in love with Charlotte. If the Liars could’ve just found some evidence to get him put away, they could’ve gone back to whatever lives they have left outside of Rosewood.

Of course, things will never be that simple on Pretty Little Liars until at least the series finale (and maybe not even then). Alison’s grand escape plan lead to the Liars having a very dead Elliot Rollins coming through the window of their car. Poor Hanna, who is currently the most broken of them all, had to be the one driving. These girls have gone from being implicated in so many murders to actually committing one!

After only three episodes of Pretty Little Liars season 7, there’s already a body. The question is, is it the body that the Liars were burying in the flashforward? Probably not. In the flashforward, Spencer claimed that the death would be considered “first degree murder” because it was a “well thought out plan.” This was anything but that. The girls were driving around like chickens with their heads cut off until Elliot came flying through their windshield. That means there’s bound to be more bodies stacking up in this season of Pretty Little Liars.

Elliot may be dead (probably) but he still has a lot of mysteries surrounding him. After Emily so rudely interrupted Toby’s engagement party, he dug up some intriguing information. Apparently, Dr. Rollins has a moving violation from 1958! Sure, plastic surgery can work miracles, but that would be pushing it. I can’t wait to find out what else he was hiding now that Alison’s finally free from his grasp, and if Alison actually did what he thought she did!

Who’s on our rA.D.ar?

No new characters on the list after this episode. Just the same old suspects!
