The prequel to the 2007 hit 300 has been given its official title – which is different than its original working title!

Warner Bros. announced that the 300 prequel title has been changed from the working title of 300: The Battle of Artemisia, to the official title of 300: Rise Of An Empire, Deadline reports. Like the 2007 original film, Rise of an Empire is based off of a Frank Miller graphic novel about Greek mythology.

Rise of an Empire is set to hit theaters on August 2, 2013.  Noam Murro is directing, who is known for the 2008 film Smart People with Dennis Quaid and Sarah Jessica Parker. Rodrigo Santoro is reprising his role from the original 300 as the Persian king Xerxes, and Sullivan Stapleton (December Boys) has recently been cast as Athenian general Themistocles. Eva Green (The Golden Compass, Casino Royale) has been cast as Artemisia I of Caria, who was a commander in the Battle of Salamis and worked with King Xerxes. Not much other information has been announced, but we do know that Gerard Butler won’t be returning.

What do you think of the title name? Are you excited Warner Bros. is creating a prequel, or do you think it’ll be overdone? Leave us your thoughts below!
