Seth Rogen’s adaptation of Preacher looks stunning. The first trailer shows off Dominic Cooper’s Jesse Custer, the possessed priest who sets out to find God.

Preacher is a beloved comic book series by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. It’s being adapted for TV by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin, with Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga and Joseph Gilgun in the starring roles. There’s literally nothing not to like about AMC’s latest apocalyptic series.

And if the first trailer is anything to go by, we won’t be disappointed:

In the comics (and now in the AMC series), Jesse Custer is possessed by a supernatural creature named Genesis. He is joined in his quest to find God by Cassidy (Gilgun), a vampire, and Tulip O’Hare (Negga), his old flame.

The series looks poised to follow in the footsteps of Deadwood, with its Western theme and extreme violence, but clearly there’s some comic relief as well — probably coming mainly from Joseph Gilgun, who looks like he’ll be drawing on his hilarious Misfits character for this role.

Speaking recently about working with AMC to develop Preacher, Seth Rogen told Collider, “It’s been amazing, honestly. AMC’s been very open and not restrictive of the things we wanted to do, and we pushed it pretty hard as we generally do. There’s definitely been some conversations here and there, but ultimately they’ve let us do exactly what we wanted, which has been incredible. Literally you can’t say the F word, but other than that, we’ve pretty much been given complete free range.”

Preacher premieres on AMC in 2016, with no exact air date specified.
