Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger has dominated the summer with intense storylines and solid character building during its freshman season.

Tyrone “Cloak” Johnson and Tandy “Dagger” Bowen have been on an impressive journey since they ignited their powers eight years after their initial encounter. Their adjustment to their abilities and struggle to navigate issues like depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, and debilitating fear and anger have humanized these teenage heroes.

Season 1 is coming to a close with only three more episodes until the season finale and the action has intensified as Tandy and Tyrone seek to avenge the deaths of their loved ones.

A lot has happened in the New Orleans-based saga but there are a few powerful moments that really caught the fandom’s attention. Here are our top 8 most powerful Cloak & Dagger moments so far.

The deaths of Billy Johnson and Nathan Bowen

Nathan and Billy’s deaths on the same night as Roxxon’s major oil rigging accident are what brought Tyrone and Tandy together as kids. The unfortunate tragedies led to them gaining their powers and have shaped who they are as people. So far, Tandy and Tyrone’s primary motivations are centered on exposing the truth surrounding their deaths.

Tandy is fighting to clear her father’s name after he was framed for the oil rigging mishap. She deals with her pain by using drugs and emotionally distancing herself from everyone.

Tyrone wants to make Detective Connors, who shot Billy and covered up his murder, pay for his actions and is consumed with justifiable anger and defeat.

Their untimely demises have brought Tyrone and Tandy closer together as the duo works through their pain and helps each other find answers.

Tyrone and Tandy’s first reunion

Tyrone and Tandy meet again by chance (or divine fate) at a party in the woods when Tandy tries to swipe Tyrone’s wallet. After chasing her down, the pair touch and ignite their dormant powers.

They recognize each other from the night Tyrone saved Tandy after the accident, which leaves both of them in shock. The sheer fear and confusion on their faces cemented the actors’ chemistry together and set the characters off on their individual journeys with their powers.

Tyrone begins to teleport into strange places and Tandy quickly learns how to produce daggers to protect herself from harm. Now, they have gotten a hold on their abilities and have finally combined forces to effect positive change.

Visions of hope and fear

Tyrone decided to dabble in voodoo with a spiritual cleansing bath and took himself as well as Tandy on an interesting experience. They were able to see each other’s inner wounds with Tyrone’s revenge mission against Connors and Tandy’s penchant for avoiding her problems.

It led to the pair finally coming together and getting clarity about their personal lives. The scenes of Tyrone being chased and killed by police along with Tandy’s father being tortured by Roxxon employees were striking visuals that emphasized their intense internal struggles.

The war of words

Tyrone and Tandy’s infamous squabble in the church brought another layer of realness to the characters as they pointed out valid issues.

Tyrone forced Tandy to see that her whiteness played into her ability to con people and get away with playing the victim.

He reminded her that the world sees him as a threat because he is black and of the constant pressure he feels as a result of being a target. In return, Tandy forced him to recognize his own depression and fear as well as the privilege he does have with middle-class parents and a private education.

It mirrored the real-life complexities surrounding race, class, privilege, and mental health that many teenagers face today.

One will die

Wait, what?! Tyrone’s new flame Evita and her voodoo priestess aunt Chantelle did a card reading on Tyrone in his absence. Chantelle’s expertise led to a shocking conclusion – that either Tyrone or Tandy would have to die.

In the past, there had been several “divine pairings” and each time one of them met their demise. This information leads to a lot of questions.

Who will die? Can this person be resurrected? The show has a definitive five-season plan according to showrunner Joe Pokaski.

So, will this prediction come true with a tragic series finale? Only time will tell, but it was a revelation that caused pandemonium among the fandom.

Tyrone’s reckoning with Duane

Tyrone discovered that he wasn’t the only witness to Billy’s murder. Billy’s friend Duane also saw the crime, but he used it to his advantage to essentially blackmail Connors and conduct a drug business.

Tyrone is understandably livid and confronts Duane, saying that he is a coward for not seeking justice. He refers to Duane’s decision to stay quiet and work with Connors as “killing Billy over and over again” because he built an illegal business as well as a home construction business off of Billy’s death.

Duane countered by saying he did what he had to do to survive because not everyone has the same economic privilege as Tyrone. The verbal exchange between the two was a standout moment, especially in terms of their dueling views on justice.

Tragedy strikes Tyrone…again

Tyrone is hit with another major blow when his brother’s friend Duane is shot and killed in front of him by another police officer. He narrowly escaped being shot himself by teleporting to Tandy’s church.

Cloak & Dagger fans experienced all the feels when Tyrone broke down in tears and Tandy tried to comfort him but couldn’t hug him because their powers would force them apart. It was undoubtedly the most heartbreaking scene in the show thus far and showcased Tyrone’s anguish for the first time.

The fight for freedom

Tyrone and Tandy may have experienced several setbacks in their investigations, but they did manage to free a man from his own mind. Ivan Hess was the only survivor from the Roxxon oil rigging accident, but he was in a catatonic state and could not speak about his experience.

They were able to get into his mind and help him remember his life so he could stop the continuous loop in his head. The experience nearly killed them, but it caused the pair to become closer to each other.

The epic scene with Tandy throwing daggers while Tyrone expertly teleported around to subdue the zombie-like people on the rig was the action moment that fans had been waiting for all season.

Cloak and Dagger were finally together and showing off how badass their powers could be as they helped Ivan stop the explosion in his mind, which restored him in real life.

The truth hurts and goodbyes are hard

Tandy may have shown off her dagger skills during the Ivan Hess mission, but she also dealt with her share of pain. Her father Nathan Bowen was calling Ivan in his repeated time loop and Tandy became addicted to talking to him.

Tyrone helped her realize that this version of Nathan wasn’t real and helped her confront her issues of self-isolation and drug abuse. In real life, Nathan Bowen was on the phone with Ivan during the accident and Tandy was the in the backseat, so she asked the man on the phone who was in his backseat.

He replied that no one was there, thereby breaking Tandy’s heart and forcing her to bid a farewell to her father’s voice. The tearful goodbye and realization of her pain sent tear emojis flying across social media.
