A few days ago we told you that Pottermore was planning to open Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban soon.

They’ve now set an official opening date and unveiled our first look at some artwork.

The third book in the Harry Potter series will open on Rowling’s website on Thursday, December 20. In the visual preview released below, “Harry, Hermione, Ron and their classmates attend Hagrid’s first Care of Magical Creatures class and encounter the impressive Hippogriffs in their paddock.” Fans had voted on which moment they wanted to see a first look at late last week.

As in books past, the artwork within Pottermore continues to look beautiful. We love this scene in particular because it is one we did not see in the Prisoner of Azkaban movie.

Pottermore encourages you to make sure you’ve collected “all the items on your second-year shopping list” so you can continue on to book three. As users may know, you’ll have to have book two completed before you can move forward.

Once the new chapters go live on Thursday, we’ll journey through them and then provide an overview of what’s new. Here’s hoping Rowling shares some interesting new material! We’re pleased to see that Prisoner of Azkaban is opening up less than two months after Chamber of Secrets was completed.
