A new Diagon Alley area on Pottermore introduces two Quidditch World Cup reports written by J.K. Rowling in the voice of Ginny Potter during present day.

In the year 2014 in the Wizarding World, Ginny Potter (she married Harry, remember) is now working as a sports journalist for the Daily Prophet. Ginny is on the scene in the Patagonian desert as a “Quidditch Correspondent.”

Ginny is, of course, a fictional character, so these “live” Quidditch reports were actually penned by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling for Pottermore.

Notably, Rowling quotes Rolf Scamander – the grandson of Newt Scamander, who will get his own trilogy of films created by Rowling and Warner Bros. in a few years – in the Daily Prophet reports.

Highlights from Ginny’s reports include details about the team mascots, magical creatures, why spectators are suffering injuries while watching today’s Quidditch match between Norway and Ivory Coast, and a lot more.

You can read the two reports by visiting the new Diagon Alley section of Pottermore.

We like how Rowling has found a way to tie in Newt Scamander with Pottermore as fans eagerly await the first Fantastic Beasts movie. We’re also thrilled to see Ginny referenced with “Potter” as her last name.

The opening of Diagon Alley on Pottermore is timely as Universal Orlando prepares to open The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley-themed land this summer. Attractions will include a Gringotts Bank thrill ride, The Leaky Cauldron restaurant, and a working Hogwarts Express train.

This is the first time we’ve received present day information from or about characters in the Harry Potter series on Pottermore.
