In a post today on its website, Pottermore announced that the site as we know it is about to receive a big facelift.

While details are still scarce, Pottermore says they are about to enter a new era for the website in which they look outside of Harry’s world and into the broader Wizarding World.

“Part one of Pottermore’s story, in which you have enjoyed the depiction of Harry’s story through illustrated ‘Moment’ artwork and experienced life within Hogwarts, is ending,” Pottermore writes. “We are now preparing for part two of Pottermore’s story to begin. As J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World expands, so too will Pottermore, becoming a place to imagine more and share in a world beyond the seven book series.”

In a tweet to a user, Pottermore further explained that the artwork on the site is not going away, but “the Moments as you know them will change.” They also said the site will be “packed with new features!”

Expanding into the wider Wizarding World is certainly a tantalizing idea — J.K. Rowling could unveil lots of interesting information about the larger magical world.

Presumably Pottermore is referring to Fantastic Beasts when they speak of how Jo’s Wizarding World is about to expand. With the first film due out in about 14 months, Rowling and Pottermore could use the website to educate people on Newt Scamander and his friends. This is actually an idea I suggested here on Hypable previously — in May of last year I proposed Rowling release a short story set before the events of the first Fantastic Beasts film to get fans pumped up.

To commemorate our time on Pottermore, the site has launched a new Certificate feature (Make sure you’re logged in to Pottermore before clicking that link). It lets you print out a document reminding you that you didn’t get to pick your own username. Here’s what mine looks like:

The existence of this certificate is interesting because it may suggest that our accounts are about to disappear. Why do they want us print our username, Hogwarts House, and wand information on a piece of parchment if these accounts aren’t doomed? This, combined with the recent removal of the fan art and commenting features, may spell trouble for the accounts.

Are they about to do away with user accounts and simply make this an online… dare I say… Encyclopedia?

No matter what happens, we expect the site will keep the Sorting Hat experience and eventually launch a Patronus quiz.

By the way: Thank you to “SeerElm25” who sent me “a Rock Cake as a gift” on August 1, 2013. I didn’t know you had sent me the gift until today. This is the first time I’m looking at my notifications.

Thanks to Julie for the tip!
