Warner Bros. has tapped Harry Potter screenwriter Steve Kloves to write and direct Defending Jacob.

As Variety reports, the film, which is based on the novel by William Landay, is a legal thriller.

Set in a wealthy Boston suburb, novel follows a district attorney who must leave his day job to defend his son from a murder charge while uncertain of his son’s innocence.

In addition to writing all the Harry Potter films outside of The Order of the Phoenix, Kloves penned this Summer’s The Amazing Spider-Man, and has previously helmed The Fabulous Baker Boys and Flesh and Bone. Are you interested in seeing this one? What do you think of Kloves writing AND directing?
