In a Pokémon news explosion, MANY new creatures, characters, and gameplay elements were revealed fit to excite any Pokemon X and Y trainer!

New Megas

As is tradition with Gen. VI of the Pokémon series, old favorites will have new temporary in-battle forms called Mega Evolutions.

Mega Mewtwo X is the second new form for the popular Gen. I legendary. When Mewtwo evolves in battle using the Mewtwonite X, it will gain an additional Fighting Type and the ability Steadfast.

As if it needed the power boost, this Gen. IV psuedo-legendary Garchomp gains even more Attack and Special Attack stats upon its Mega Evolution. There are no reports of it changing from its original dual Dragon/Ground typing, but will gain the ability Sand Force.

Gen. VI starter evos

The long awaited second stages of the new Gen. VI starters, along with their English names, has been revealed!

When Chespin evolves into Quilladin, the hard spikes on its body grow even sturdier, and it’s able to withstand the impact of even something the size of a tractor-trailer truck without flinching. Its solid shell repels attacks while it strikes back with its pointed spines. The gentle Spiny Armor Pokémon never seeks out battles on its own, but when an opposing Pokémon strikes, it fights back!

Quilladin can learn the Ground-type move Mud Shot, likely making it the second Grass/Ground typed starter.

Froakie has awesome jumping skills that are greatly improved when it evolves into Frogadier. This Bubble Frog Pokémon can reach to the top of a 2,000-foot tower with ease and eludes its opponents by leaping around ceilings or into trees.

Froagadier will most likely be Water/Flying, as it’s noted in the press release that it can learn the Flying-type move Bounce.

Braixen is the evolved form of the Fire-type Fox Pokémon Fennekin. Players will notice that Braixen keeps a small twig tucked into its tail. Fennekin often snacks on a twig, but Braixen uses it in another way—the twig calms its mind and is also sometimes used in battle after being set aflame with a little friction.

Barixen can learn the Psychic-type move Psyshock, giving further credence to it’s second type being Psychic.

Team Flare and NPC detailed

The first of the NPCs detailed are the leaders of Team Flare. According to the press release, each will be identified by their unique hair color. “The purple-haired woman is Celosia, the orange-haired woman is Aliana, the green-haired woman is Bryony, and the blue-haired woman is Mable.”

Also, the big bad of Team Flare (pictured below) was described as such: “There is one man among the Scientists, Xerosic, who is easily identifiable by his red goggles and fire-red hair.”

A mysterious trainer Diantha, likely a League Champion speculation contender, was described as being a movie star that’s interested in trainers with true potential. The player will meet her throughout his or her journey.

New Pokemon creatures

Above is the official render for the Fire-type Litleo evolution Pyroar, which was announced yesterday.

It was revealed that female Litleo will evolve into a new form of Pyroar.

Furfrou, a Pokemon that will change appearances based on the amount of grooming it does or doesn’t receive. Additionally, it was stated “it’s said that in ancient times Furfrou guarded the king of the Kalos region.”

Furfrou will most likely be a Fairy-dual type along with its confirmed Normal-typing. It can learn the new Fairy-type move Baby-doll Eyes, which both allows the user to go first, regardless of speed, and can also lower the opponent’s attack stat.

Above are the different versions of Furfrou, accessible to players who take time to groom the Fairy-type to certain qualifications.

There will be two versions of the Psychic-type Pokémon Meowstic, based on gender. Female Meowstic are based on more offensive-type strategies.

According to the press release, “This expressionless Constraint Pokémon does not show emotion to others, but it seems that some Trainers love the unsociable front it puts on.”

The male form of Mewostic will act as more of a supporter in-battle. Both it and its female counterpart will learn moves dependent on their gender.

Tyrunt is a Pokémon that can be restored from the Jaw Fossil, and can learn the moves Dragon Tail and Crunch, and is a dual Rock/Dragon-type. It is the Royal Heir Pokémon, has the ability Strong Jaw, and “often throws fits.”

Amaura is a Tundra Pokémon, and is revived from the Sail Fossil. It learns the move Aurora Beam and has the ability Refrigerate, and is a Rock/Ice-type Pokémon.

New ‘Pokemon X’ and ‘Y’ gameplay mechanics

As for the type matchups for PokémonX and Y, the following changes will go into effect starting with Gen. VI:

-Fairy type is strong against Fighting, Dark and Dragon; and not very effective against Steel, Poison and Fire. Defensively, Fairy is weak to Poison and Steel; resists Bug, Fighting and Dark; and is immune to Dragon.

-Steel will no longer resist Dark and Ghost-type moves, slightly balancing out the powerful type.

-Grass-type Pokémon are now immune to powder and spore moves.

-Ghost-type Pokémon are now immune to effects that prevent fleeing.

-Electric-type Pokémon are now immune to paralysis.

As for out-of-battle mechanics, the following information is new:

-10-second videos can be recorded with players and their Pokémon, in which they can change their expressions, poses, background music, camera angles. These PR video can be shared on the Player Search System.

-Players will be able to change their clothing and hairstyles at boutiques all across the Kalos region.
