Pokémon Sword and Shield will see new Gigantamax forms for fan-favorite Pokémon from the series’ first games.

Recently, Game Freak announced Gigantamax Pokémon evolutions. These giant Pokémon evolutions will ensure that even though Mega Evolutions are no longer present, new forms for fan-favorite Pokémon will be introduced.

Amongst some of the recently announced Gigantamax forms for Pokémon Sword and Shield are Pikachu, Eevee, Butterfree, Meowth, and Charizard. Check out their reveal below.

Every Pokémon will have its own special Gigantamax move that will have effects specific to those moves. For example, Pikachu’s G-Max Volt Crash will paralyze all opponents, while Eevee’s G-Max Cuddle will infatuate Pokémon of the opposite gender. These Gigantamax Pikachu and Eevee can be accessed by “using play records of Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!” and Pikachu! on the same Switch you’re playing Pokémon Sword and Shield on.

Charizard now has three forms, with his other two being his X and Y Mega Evolutions. He is the Ace of Champion Leon, likely making this Gigantamax Pokémon quite the force to be reckoned with. Today’s announcement marks the first time Pikachu will have a new in-game form, along with Eevee and Butterfree.

Meowth is perhaps the strangest looking out of all of these new forms. It previously had a new form in Alola, but it didn’t look anywhere near as silly as this.

Many Pokémon will be able to Dynamax, or become larger, in Pokémon Sword and Shield. However, only certain ones will be able to Gigantamax, which changes their form, on top of them becoming larger than life.

An evolution for the long-forgotten Farfetch’d will be an exclusive Pokémon to Sword, while Shield will have a new Ponyta form with a Psychic Typing.

Pokémon Sword and Shield release internationally for the Nintendo Switch on November 15, 2019.
