The episode of the Pokémon: Sun and Moon anime features the debut of the primate Pokémon, Passimian.

Episode 64 of the Pokémon: Sun and Moon anime, which translates from Japanese as “Satoshi and Nagetukesaru! Touchdown of Friendship!!,” features a sequence in which protagonist Ash has his face painted black in order to bond with the lemur-like Pokémon Passimian.

While the Pokémon Passimian itself is not problematic, the Pokémon series faced similar backlash for the human-like Pokémon Jynx. Another episode of the Pokémon anime titled “Holiday Hi-Jynx” had to be recolored to give Jynx a purple skin tone as opposed to a black one. “Holiday Hi-Jynx” was still pulled from syndicated rotations of the Pokémon anime, and was excluded from recent DVD box sets.

It is likely that “Touchdown of Friendship!!” will share a similar fate to “Holiday Hi-Jynx,” as it is currently not slated to play on Disney XD’s schedule.

Another banned Pokémon episode includes the “seizure” episode, which was episode 38 of the original Pokémon anime. The episode, which translates to “Electric Soldier Porygon,” featured an extended sequence of red and blue flashing lights, during which many children in Japan reportedly had seizures. The Pokémon Porygon itself was banned from ever appearing in the anime, and the episode “Electric Soldier Porygon” never aired outside of Japan.

Yet another episode of the Pokémon: Indigo League anime that was banned from most rotations was episode 18, “Beauty and the Beach.” This episode featured James wearing inflatable breasts, and also had an elderly man ogling Misty’s boobs, stating that he “couldn’t wait to have fun with her in a couple of years.”

One last episode of the Pokémon anime that was notably banned from airing its dubbed version was episode 35 of the Indigo League run. This episode, which translates to “The Legend of Miniryu,” took place in the Safari Zone, and featured the usage of handguns by the warden.
