Episode #56 – Comic-Con Rejects

Hosted by Selina Wilken, John Thrasher, Caitlin Kelly, Katie Awad, Brittany Lovely

July 8, 2015

Introducing the Hype Podcast hosts’ Shadow Selves! Because most of our usual panel is off at Comic-Con having fun or whatever, Selina is joined this week by Hypable.com staff members John Thrasher, Brittany Lovely, Caitlin Kelly and Katie Awad! For those of you hoping for more diverse opinions, this is the show for you!

How We Hype:
Selina tries and fails to get discussions going about Terminator: Genisys and Magic Mike XXL, because almost no one has seen them!

News Discussion:
– Ava DuVernay has chosen to pass on Black Panther, citing creative differences. As Caitlin notes, this isn’t the first time that’s happened
– The Batman vs. Superman stills are great, but… underwhelming?
– Yaaayyy, a live-action Prince Charming movie is in the works at Disney. Dreams really DO come true!
– Meanwhile, a Monopoly movie in the works at Lionsgate. Yeah, we got nothing…
– The Star Wars Han Solo spin-off will be directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord. In related news, Selina realizes that she’s the lone Star Wars fan in the group
– There’s some bad news, as we learn that Netflix and Amazon will not pick up Hannibal
– The Series of Unfortunate Events trailer turned out to be fan-made, but is still awesome
– Dustin Hoffman says movie industry is the worst it’s ever been. This sets up a wonderful mini-discussion on movies vs TV, led by John
– Rooney Mara is set to star in HBO’s Utopia, which meant nothing to us until Katie explained why this show is going to be amazing!
– Dark Swan is coming to Once Upon a Time… Brittany tells us how she really feels about that development
– Comic-Con is staying in San Diego through 2018! Yay, nay, or do we need to go hide in the shower?

Listener Feedback:
– Finally, someone gives Sense8 a BIG thumbs-up
– The Sebastian Stan love continues
– Kyle is vindicated, as listeners agree that Michael Cera isn’t a good fit for Fantastic Beasts
– Everyone loves Spy. Everyone.
– Katie explains how she feels about Ready Player One.

And that’s the show! Give our fill-in hosting panel some love on Twitter @jthrasher, @purplehrdwonder, @britlovely237 and @KatelynAwad!
