Episode #86 – Flashback to ‘Ballad’ and ‘Sectionals’

Hosted by Natalie Fisher, Caitlin Kelly and Jack Farrugia

August 14, 2014

Glee Chat rounds out Glee’s iconic “first thirteen” in this flashback recap for Glee season 1, episode 10, “Ballad” and episode 13, “Sectionals”

Glee season 1, episode 10, “Ballad”

– Natalie forgot about the Rachel/Will romance plotline
– Will is so hot and studly that all the girls fall in love with him… Naturally!
– Would the Suzy Pepper plot work in the current episodes of Glee?
– Caitlin is a teacher, however has never had the “troubles” that Will has had
– The inner monologues during ‘Endless Love’ were fantastic, and Glee has lost some of that specific humour
– Jack continues to think that the minor characters should return for Season 6; Suzy, Terri… KENDRA!
– It is fun to see Kurt function without being involved in relationship dramas
– Caitlin believes that Kurt’s motivations are 100% manipulative
– Jack thinks Kurt would be smarter and has advice for how he should seduce Finn…
– Kurt enjoys the idea of having a protector, however this does not always equate to him functioning well in relationships
– Kurt had a chance to continue a friendship with Finn
– It’s nice that Kurt feels safe around Finn to open up to him about his Mother
– It’s interesting that Glee would portray a plot line that contains a strong stereotype of gay people
– Glee makes a teenage boy singing to a sonogram not absolutely silly.
– Carole is a gift. Her reaction to the baby drama in comparison to Quinn’s parents is one of Natalie’s favourite parts.
– Quinn’s family dynamic is very well set up just by the interaction of her parents
– Natalie feels Finn portrays a teenager very well, and is viewing it differently now as to when she first watched it.
– We are all somewhat confused what Kurt’s exact motivations are in making Finn sing the confession at the dinner.
– Does Finn have a right to tell Quinn’s parents she is pregnant without the two making a decision together?
– Puckcedes, man…
– Did Will write ‘Other Asian’ in the card?

Glee season 1, episode 13, “Sectionals”

– Rachel very quickly gave up her solo to Mercedes… Too quickly?
– The kids competing against each other on their own accord is very different to Will making them compete.
– The party line scene though.
– Rachel didn’t hesitate in letting the baby drama out, however the rest of the glee club left it under wraps.
– Please let there be a scene where Mercedes tells the rest of the glee club to keep the baby drama quiet.
– Rachel’s motivations for telling Finn he isn’t the father?
– Jack is sometimes unimpressed by Dianna’s acting.
– Finn saving the glee club will always be a milestone in Glee history.
– Santana defending herself is a moment that is never forgotten.
– Quinn vs. Santana in New York?
– We are so proud of the glee club coming back from the stolen set list drama
– The first Sectionals performance demonstrated how well the kids work together.
– If the show was to end after the first 13 episodes it would have been a great cult hit.
– The judges room works well on a Sectionals level.
– If you haven’t heard, we don’t like Will Schuester.
– Sue loves you like a sister.
– Puck and Blaine knew each other in their fight club, however, they can’t talk about it.
– How do we feel about finishing the “first thirteen” altogether? What’s coming next? (Jesse.)
– Once again – Jesse in Season 6?
– We discuss the Season 6 casting announcement for the New New New Directions.
– Jack wants Rachel to be homeless.
– Blaine as the Warbler coach and Sam for the New Directions? (Bringing down Will, together!)
