It’s been over a decade since the Plain White T’s topped the charts with their hit single, “Hey There Delilah.” Now, the sweet, acoustic heavy hit is about to come back into the spotlight in an unexpected way.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Hey There Delilah” is officially being adapted into a scripted television series, with the band on board to help bring it to life.

The Plain White T’s and Lively McCabe Entertainment and Primary Wave are both on board to develop the upcoming dramatic comedy.

It sounds like they’ll be pulling pretty heavily from the source material as well. According to THR, the series is currently being described as “a contemporary fairy tale that expands the story of the song.”

While the series is currently in development, producers (which include Plain White T’s frontman Tom Higgenson and script writer Jeremy Desmon) are working on getting a studio on board. In fact, both Higgenson and Desmon are slated to head to Los Angeles sometime this month to pitch the series to multiple networks and studios.

Peppered with saccharine sentiments like “Times Square can’t shine as bright as you,” and “I’d walk to you if I had no other way,” the hit single, which debuted in 2006, tells the story of a long-distance relationship between a struggling songwriter and his New York City based love.

In addition to spending multiple weeks at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, “Hey There Delilah” also raked in two Grammy nominations — one in the coveted Song of the Year category, and the other for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group.

There’s no denying the world instantly fell in love with the story that courses through the lyrics of the track, and as Higgenson explained in a statement announcing the series, people’s love affair with the idea of “Delilah” hasn’t gone anywhere.

“It’s been more than a decade since ‘Hey There Delilah’ was released, and people always ask me about it. A whole lot of people really connected with that song, and I’m very proud of that,” said Higgenson, according to THR. “I’m so excited to have the opportunity to give a new generation the chance to form their own connection with the song, and fall in love with its story through this new project.”

We’ll be curious to see if any networks decide to take a chance on the series.
