In brief new comments to The Hollywood Reporter, Up director Pete Doctor speaks about his next Pixar project Inside Out and how the story will be told.

Doctor says that Inside Out runs simultaneous stories. One story takes place inside a girl’s head while another takes place outside. “One story is hard enough,” he said. “This is two stories that need to talk to each other.”

He added about the film’s animation and what you’ll see in the girl’s head, “The characters are created with this energy because we are trying to represent what emotions would look like. They are made up of particles that actually move. Instead of being skin and solid, it is a massive collection of energy.”

Reading these descriptions, it’s hard to even imagine what Doctor and his Pixar team could be dreaming up for this story and how the balance between inside the mind and outside will play out.

Inside Out will open in theaters June 19, 2015. It’ll be a welcome addition to the Pixar library because fans have been eager to see an original movie out of the studio. Some were let down by their most recent original story Brave.
