Though still a long way off, Disney Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur now has a composer. Thomas Newman will score the Bob Peterson directed film all about dinosaurs.

Newman has an impressive line up of credits including the latest James Bond film Skyfall, The Iron Lady, and The Help. He’s no stranger to Pixar either, as he composed Finding Nemo and Wall-E.

Newman made the announcement during a speaking engagement recently. “What if the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct?” writes Pixar in the teaser synopsis.

“[Writing for] animation is a lot different,” said Newman about the challenges of composing for animation at Le Moyne University as part of their Film Talk Series (where he made the announcement). “In live-action, you can settle on a mood or tone that lasts for a long time. In animation, the tone is shifting every two or three seconds. There’s a lot more writing, a lot more notes. It can be scary.”

The Good Dinosaur will open in theaters May 30, 2014. Pixar’s next film is the Monsters, Inc. prequel Monsters University which hits theaters this June. You can check out a great, colorful trailer for the film in our previous story. Thanks to Film Music Reporter for the tip.
