Pixar’s delayed dino tale The Good Dinosaur was apparently pushed back a year and a half for good reason: The film has been given a huge facelift.

Speaking to Collider this week, voice actor John Lithgow said that the original film has been “dismantled” and “completely reimagined” to the point where he has to record new dialogue in September.

“I recorded the entire role in Good Dinosaur. They have now dismantled it and completely reimagined it, and it is a fantastic new story,” he said. “So I’m gonna record again on it within the next month. Don’t worry. It’s coming and it’s gonna be better than I ever imagined.”

Lithgow confirmed that he and Frannie McDormand will still be playing the same characters they were originally cast as, “Momma and Poppa dinosaur.”

The Good Dinosaur’s troubles reached a tipping point in August and September of last year when the film’s director was taken off the project and the release date move was announced.

Said Pixar President Ed Catmull about the director switch last year, “All directors get really deep in their films. Sometimes you just need a different perspective to get the idea out. Sometimes directors … are so deeply embedded in their ideas it actually takes someone else to finish it up. I would go so far as to argue that a lot of live-action films would be better off with that same process.”

The Good Dinosaur’s delay left Pixar without a new movie to release in 2014. The good news is we now have two films to look forward to from Pixar in 2015: The aforementioned and Inside Out.

We can’t wait to see what Pixar decided to do with The Good Dinosaur and to hear more about these seemingly huge changes.

The Good Dinosaur hits theaters November 25, 2015. Voice actors besides those mentioned above include Judy Greer, Neil Patrick Harris, and Bill Hader.
