Ahead of a big presence at the D23 Expo in Anaheim this weekend, Pixar Creative Chief John Lasseter is speaking about what’s in the future for the studio.

Most notable in Lasseter’s interview with Entertainment Weekly is probably this new piece of concept art from their 2014 original story The Good Dinosaur. It is only the second piece of art to be released from the film which is now under a year away from release.

The Good Dinosaur concept art depicts what is likely the lead dinosaur character. The story is set in an alternate universe where dinosaurs did not go extinct.

A preview of the film may arrive at the D23 Expo today, but that is not confirmed. Given how close we are to the May 2014 release, a teaser trailer is not out of the realm of possibility.

As for Pixar’s future with Lucasfilm, Lasseter insisted that no Pixar/Star Wars collaborations are in the pipeline. “Other than Pixar has always used Skywalker Sound for all of our productions,” he noted.

Finally, Lasseter touched on the future of hand-drawn animation at Disney which has been falling more and more off their radar. “We still are doing some … We’re still doing a lot of short films,” he said. “There are no features on the docket for hand-drawn, but we’re definitely keeping hand drawn alive at the studio. Hand-drawn is finding it’s way in a very interesting way into the technology. There’s a lot of hand-drawing that goes into the computer animated movies at Walt Disney Animation Studios.”

Later today we’ll let you know what Pixar has to share at D23.
