The end of Monsters Inc. had left a pretty big door open for a sequel, but recently it was announced that the next film in the Monsters franchise will actually be a prequel. Now we’re learning a bit more thanks to a summary released by Pixar!
The film is called Monsters University and will open on June 21st, 2013. Collider found this synopsis today:
“Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. Monsters University unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.”
The title Monsters University obviously tells us the setting of the plot will be their school. A basic color logo was also released today:
