Pitch Perfect 2 opens next month, and while its full line up of songs is still under wraps, the first single from the new film is already here.

The new song titled “Flashlight” (“you’re getting me, getting me through the night”) has been penned specifically for Pitch Perfect 2, and on the film’s soundtrack it is performed by Jessie J.

You can hear the song and watch the “Flashlight” music video below. In the latter, Jessie J sings at Barden University amongst clips from Pitch Perfect 2 and a sub story reflecting the song’s lyrics.

The new song from Jessie J is slower than the hits we’ve become accustomed to from the British artist over the past couple of years. Nonetheless, it’s a great ballad that looks to represent an emotional moment during Pitch Perfect 2.

It’s not clear if this version of the song is included in Pitch Perfect 2 or if the Bellas will be performing it themselves.

Thanks to the last Pitch Perfect 2 trailer – viewable below – we already know that the film will include covers of songs like “Before He Cheats,” “Bootylicious,” “Wrecking Ball,” “Run the World (Girls),” and “Scenario.”

Pitch Perfect 2 opens in theaters May 15. We imagine one or two covers from the movie will surface on Top 40 radio over the summer as moviegoers fall in love with new performances by the Bellas.

What do you think of the first ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ single?

It’s no “Cups,” that’s for sure. I would’ve preferred to hear a new song for Pitch Perfect that matches the energy in the film, but I guess that’s what the covers are for!
