Pitch Perfect 2 has nabbed its first new cast member: Hailee Steinfeld.

She will play one of the Bellas. What’s more, the actress will move into the lead role if the sequel is so successful that the studio decides to move ahead with a Pitch Perfect 3, according to Variety. If true, this information would suggest that a couple of the stars – maybe Kendrick and/or Wilson – only want to participate in two of the movies in the franchise.

There’s a high chance that Pitch Perfect 2 will be another hit for Universal. The original made $113 million worldwide on a $17 million budget thanks to its great ensemble, story, and music.

Steinfeld’s recent credits include Ender’s Game, Romeo & Juliet, and True Grit. She is 17 years old.

Many of the ladies who led the original are already set for Pitch Perfect 2, including Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and Brittany Snow. Wilson shared a picture of everyone reunited for the project earlier this month on Twitter:

Another returning actress is Elizabeth Banks, pictured with the group above, who is also directing the new movie.

In related news, the studio announced earlier this month that actress Chrissie Fit has joined the cast as a Bella.

Pitch Perfect 2 enters theaters May 15, 2015. Kay Cannon, who wrote the original, returned to write the sequel.

We look forward to seeing Steinfeld’s singing chops!
