Johnny Depp has injured his hand while filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The actor is flying from Australia to the United States to receive surgery.

Perhaps it’s a sign that Depp has been playing Captain Jack for a little too long (kidding), but the actor sustained an injury to his hand over the weekend while filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in Australia.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will be the fifth outing in Disney’s massive franchise featuring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. As with the previous sequel, the studio has added new actors to the cast in an attempt to keep fans interested.

Reports suggest that Depp was actually not on set of the film when the accident occurred, and that the film’s production will only be “minimally impacted,” according to sources. The actor has flown to the United States though, to receive immediate surgery to correct his injured hand. Let’s hope they don’t give him any wooden stumps, we know how method he likes to get sometimes.

Depp’s injury was confirmed by a rep from Disney, which told TheWrap that the film’s release date will remained unchanged, and still hit theaters July 7, 2017. Production had just begun recently, with the announcement also bringing the film’s official synopsis.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5’s synopsis reveals that Jack Sparrow will find himself in search of the Trident of Poseidon: “Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.”

In all seriousness, we hope Johnny Depp has a speedy recovery from his injury, and is able to return back to Australia where the production is currently filming scenes where his character, Jack Sparrow, isn’t currently needed.

Pirates 5 is being directed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning, and the screenplay was written by Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can). The film was originally set for 2015 before being pushed back to 2016 and then again to 2017. It will now be released July 7, 2017.
