Disney has reportedly pushed back the release of Pirates of the Caribbean 5 past its planned summer 2015 release date.

The cause of Pirates of the Caribbean 5’s delay isn’t completely clear, but the Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news, notes that the push comes in light of The Lone Ranger’s box office failure this past August. The Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer-led film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the brains behind Pirates.

Perhaps Disney is spending a little more time on Pirates in pre-production so as to iron out any issues that they fear may cause it to sink at the box office.

The film is now expected to open in summer 2016, according to Deadline. “Like audiences around the globe, we have high expectations for Jack Sparrow’s next adventure and we want to have all the right elements in place,” said Sean Bailey, president of production. “We’re not there yet and we want to make sure this project is everything these wonderful characters and of course the fans deserve.”

Last month we told you that the Pirates of the Caribbean 5 directors revealed the title of the film is the theme-park friendly phrase Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Filming for Pirates 5 is expected to begin later this year. No updated release date or confirmation from Disney is available at this time. The film will star Johnny Depp in the lead role of Captain Jack Sparrow.
