The Piano Guys of YouTube fame have signed a record deal to release their next album with Sony Masterworks. Here’s the announcement and our five favorite covers from The Piano Guys.

The Piano Guys announced on their YouTube channel that they are partnering with Sony Masterworks to release their next album worldwide. They were told by Sony, “We love what you guys do, we want to take it to the next level, keep doing what you’re doing.” The album is available for pre-order on Amazon.

The actual announcement comes at about 4:35 in the video after footage of them asking people around Times Square questions about The Piano Guys. None of the people knew who they were, at least the people that made it into the video, but hopefully this record deal will create more awareness for the great music that they create.

Who exactly are The Piano Guys? The Piano Guys cover a variety of music. They’ve covered everything from Mozart to Adele. There are two on-screen musicians in the group – Jon Schmidt plays the piano while Steven Sharp Nelson plays the cello. There are three other equally important members. Paul Anderson, Tel Stewart, and Al van der Beek do the behind-the-scenes work that makes the great videos that The Piano Guys produce.

Read on for our five favorite Piano Guys covers!

Honorable Mention: ‘Harry Potter’

We really wanted to include this one as it is an amazing cover, but we had to leave it out because none of The Piano Guys musicians performed in it. The Piano Guys’ technical team produced the video and it is on their channel, so we thought it worthy of an honorable mention.

5. ‘Beethoven’s 5 Secrets’ – OneRepublic

This cover from The Piano Guys actually doesn’t feature any piano, but that doesn’t make it any less great. Cellist Steven Sharp Nelson shows why The Piano Guys are as much about the cello as they are the piano. They also did a version of this song with vocalist Tiffany Alvord. This writer enjoys her work.

4. Coldplay – ‘Paradise (Peponi) African Style’

There’s so much to love about this arrangement. The Piano Guys took a famous Coldplay tune and gave it an African style twist, a twist that benefits the song – along with The Piano Guys’ style – greatly. The African instrumentation and Alex Boye’s voice really make this something special.

3. ‘All of Me’ – Jon Schmidt

Jon Schmidt wrote “All of Me” when he was 21 years old (25 years ago) and it has been covered by many musicians on YouTube. After the start of The Piano Guys, it was only a matter of time before he posted his version of it.

2. ‘Cello Wars’

Yes, it’s another Piano Guys tune without any piano, but it’s also one of their most popular videos. This video has everything that The Piano guys offer: great music, a great arrangement, great editing, and it’s really fun.

1. ‘Charlie Brown Medley’

It’s far from reaching the top of their most popular videos, and we can’t figure out why. It’s a great arrangement, they’re clearly having fun making it, and you can’t help but love how much the elderly are enjoying their performance.

It was hard to narrow it down to just five, but those are our five favorites. Will you be buying The Piano Guys’ next album?
