In an article noting Philip Seymour Hoffman’s departure from his agent, Variety reveals that the actor is wanted for a role in Catching Fire!
One of the trade’s writers tweeted:
BREAKING: PHILLIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN offered the role of PLUTARCH HEAVENSBEE in The Hunger Games sequel CATCHING FIRE! Lionsgate had no comment

This is the first reliable news we’ve heard concerning Catching Fire casting thus far.
Who is Plutarch? As noted in our Hunger Games Hub:
Government official and Head Gamemaker of the 75th Hunger Games. It is discovered that he is a guiding force behind the rebellion taking place. He makes sure all weapons needed to escape were provided in the games and steals the hovercraft that ends up saving some of the tributes.
Of course, the above tweet does not say he’s confirmed for the role, but we can’t imagine Hoffman would turn down the offer unless he has a prior commitment to take care of.
