The “Happy” hitmaker and notable hat-wearer is set to join The Voice season 7 as its first confirmed coach.

Pharrell Williams has already had a huge year, besieging our ears with his hits “Happy” and “Get Lucky” (with Daft Punk), and our eyes, with his recent Grammy performance and that freaking hat that people are still talking about.

But we have by no means seen the last of Williams, as NBC has just announced he will be joining their hit The Voice for its seventh season, where he will serve as one of the four celebrity coaches.

Williams has previously appeared on the show in season 4, as an advisor for Team Usher, and performing “Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke last season, but this time he’ll have a big red chair of his very own.

The Voice exec producer Mark Burnett says, “I am thrilled to have Pharrell come back to The Voice family, and this time… as a coach. Continuing in The Voice tradition of having the biggest and most current music stars as coaches, Pharrell fits perfectly.”

Williams celebrated the announcement on Twitter:

Pharrell Williams is the only coach confirmed to appear in season 7 at this time. Previous coach Cee Lo Green announced earlier this year that he would not be returning to the show, which sparked talk of a line-up change for season 7.

Winning coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton have been with the show since its inception, but with their careers in full swing, they may choose to focus on other ventures. If the established coaching rotation were to continue, Christina Aguilera would join Levine and Shelton (and Williams) for season 7, but with a new fiance and a baby on the way, she may have other priorities. Usher and Shakira are in the midst of their second season as coaches, having filled in for Green and Aguilera for seasons 4 and 6, but they may only be interested in an every-other-season gig.
